Rogers and CTV both bought pieces of CityTV. Being jackals, their attempts to cleanly divide the carcass of their kill was rather unskilled and executed with less than surgical precision. One of the main issues known to the staff and talent at CityTV from day one is that Rogers has never produced content. The analogy used was that Rogers is more akin to a pizza delivery boy and not a chef. It was only a matter of time for Rogers to decimate content production and go back to being a company that delivers content produced by others.

In my opinion the shutting down of local news across this country is a travesty. The CRTC should make it a firm condition of having a broadcast license that local news content be reported on, not merely playing a recording from newsfeeds with a single host parroting an introduction.

yes the CRTC reveresed the condition of having local news as being a condition of having a broadcast license. Funny how these provate companies look at "public" airwaves as their own property and get annoyed with the CRTC imposing conditions on them. Funny watching what they promise in the crtc hearings to get their license then they never deliver on their promises but their license isn't pulled. This beig campaign for local tv is a joke since it was private broadcasters who pushed to have the condition of having local news be removed as being a condition of having a license. The other thing these private broadcasters want to to is not be required to have digital transmitters for their coverage area. Anyone who gets their HD digital signal over the air from an antenna knows the signal is better than cable. So the broadcasters want to keep their coverage area but force the viewers in regional areas to have cable to see their broadcast. Great deal bitch about cable not funding local tv then bitch if you are required to put a digital transmitter up so that all regions can get those local programs and expect cable to cover the local areas you don't want to have to put a transmitter up in that area. No wonder the private broadcasters are trying to paint the current government in a good light with their stories being slightly slanted. They want the feds to give them what they want if the CRTC don't give them what they want. This is one of the biggest scams in broadcasting in Canada since they are using statistics about antenna used based on the old anlaog system and no one is pushing the fact that digital over the air transmission is clearer than cable. Expect to see more cuts to local programs even if they get funding since there is no condition to use the revenue for local programming it simply goes into the broadcasters general revenue.

The fastest way to kill any business is to let the 'Bean Counters' take over
Absolutely.

Ask GM about the wisdom of giving control of the company to the MBAs from the Engineers. I've been through a take-over before. My friends have also been through several. They let the dust settle for a couple of years, but all the while they've hired Bain and Company who are quietly working behind the scenes. Then one day the lower the boom and all hell breaks lose. People are basically treated like a commodity and it's a case of "Fit in or Fuck off". You don't even recognize the place in a few years.

At the end of the day City TV WAS a great little local success story. Ultimately someone somewhere decided to sell out to CTV which then sold to Rogers. City was part of the CHUM / CITY group of Companies for a long time. I may be wrong, but I believe Moses Znaimer founded City TV with a partner, but even he sold out in the very early 80's to the nice people at Chum Group (who let him run his TV channel more or less his way) And I have to admit, Moses did a great job. City TV had some really cutting edge stuff, completely unique to TV.

But at some point I guess the nice people at CHUM wanted to "get thier money out" for any number of reasons so they sold out.

CITY Tv now is a shadow of its former self frankly. As a previous poster mentioned, it's about airing content and not producing content. City is basically a pile of shit now along with the crap they show.

He's been there way too long and if you think he's a dink on screen with all that make-up, try him in daylight barefaced; Scary stuff .A 24 hour dink and then some.

Anne Mroczkowski must be in her mid-fifties. I won't be surprised if she has had work done
to her face. She looks 10 years younger than her real age.

Though still hot Laura diBattista is no spring chicken either.

Get rid of the higher-paid cougars and bring in less costly young chicks
to present news. This is just business as usual.

Merella Fernandez as well!

Yikes!

Always liked her.
OMG i am sad to hear that Marella Fernandez, the dusky news caster was laid-off from her job, she was a very sober girl with good personality and hard worker too!
Sad that such experienced workers are laid off by our major TV Channel unfortunate and really painful to hear this news.
