Any kind of cover or film over the plate is illegal according to the letter of the law. It's overlooked by the majority of the cops unless they really want to get under your skin. I've had a clear plate cover on one of my bikes for several years, I've kept documentation on every time I've been pulled over along with the officer's badge #. Then one day I got pulled over and was charged with handlebars that exceeded the height and the plate cover.
When I went to court, I provided the factory documentation on the handlebar heights. This was a factory set up, the justice tossed the charge, then came the plate cover and when I said to the justice, I've been pulled over by officers with the following badge numbers, every one of them ignored the plate cover, so what made this cop more of an expert on the plate covers than the other cops. The charge was tossed since it was a clear cover that in no way obstructed the view of the place.
Insofar as the ground effect lights that you see on the underside of a car or motorcycle, its illegal in the province of ontario to have them on while driving the vehicle. It's another law that is ignored by the majority of the police.
I call it selective enforcement, its only enforced by those who want to waste your time.
Yeah. I don't really see the logic of lights UNDERNEATH The car being obstr4uctive to the road. In fact, it might improve conditions on the road. After an extensive ...uh...let's call it a ...discussion..about why they object/banned and consider it illegal is because as a family member putsw it - a person might bedistractedby the "prettiness" or the "appearance" of the car with all the pretty colors and lights.
So, the lights make the car look better, thus, the good looks of the car make it dangerous to the road?
Uh......okay.
So, I guess that makes any good looking car - corvette, stingray, porsche, viper, roadster, motorcycle, harley all illegal! simply cause they look good and can distract people from the road.
Soooo....if excessive lighting on a car makes it a threat to other drivers on the road, then answer me this...why do emergency vehicles, ambulances and firetrucks and police vehicles all have flashing lights on their vehicles that make them really bright? Dont they make the roads more dangerous??
And before you even think..
FYI - I know the argument about lights that are IN YOUR FACE such as headlights and additional straightward lights such as extra headlights i the front of the car that can blind another incoming driver. But the lights UNDERNEATH the car doesn't apply to this.
And Sheik, I like the phrase "selective enforcement. which baiclaly means a cop can come up to someone and if you shake their hand, in a greeting, that's called "Assault" and "selective enforcement" can also mean if you even look at a cop "the wrong way" or however he interprets your looking at him, then he can arrest you for that too! Call it "aggravating a police officer"
Just heard this from soemone a while ago....how he was pulled over and the rule goes,a cop cannot pull you over without "legitmate cause" but when the driver asked him why the cop pulled him over. The cop gave no succificient or olid answer and just kept telling thedriver to"have a nice day" until the driver was permitted to drive off.
