The flooding of the ballot sheets is within the rules. Just like when a dog ran for Mayor. Is it right, maybe not, but it's happened to Libs to during the by-election and Pee Pee didn't squawk when it was happening to the LIBS but now, oh no, he's all worried he might even lose the sure bet to win seat. Imagine all the tears I will be able to collect if that happens.

If the parties do not like it, then change the rule.
A better system would make flooding the ballot irrelevant.

The fact that a dog was able to run for Mayor, that alone calls for a better system. Mind you, Trump won, so is it that far of a stretch to believe a dog could win?

Keeping people off the ballot has an ugly history, of course.
I think a dog did win an election somewhere once, though.

A better system would have politicians that listened to voters and not lobbyists.
Carney was not voted in for austerity.
One would hope that a system that worked better on determining voter intent and had fewer distortions would improve politician's response to voters, but the voting system itself probably doesn't have that much impact on that issue.

It really doesn't matter which voting system you use if its accepted that politicians won't act on behalf of voters.

I worry that we are seeing more of this in Canada.

Did anyone think that was possible?
Trump seemed determined to put tariffs of some kind all over the place.
The only question was how much.

And, as you say, what will Carney do in return?
He campaigned being the best to stand up to Trump. Now Trump has him backpedaling.

I said from the beginning dropping dollar for dollar tariffs was stupid. Now Carney’s has to tariff China, who I suspect won’t be happy.

To top it off, Carney’s losing support from the public sector because he most likely will slash spending.

I hope the riding of Nepean-Carleton is the first to experience job cuts. 🤣

Indeed it doesn't.
Note their study hasn't gone uncontested (and as far as I know work continues and not just limited to the US.)

Like I said, there are changes at the voting system level that can probably help a bit, but I doubt would be a panacea for this problem.

He did campaign on that.
What I don't think he campaigned on, or anyone really expected, was "I will prevent Trump from ever putting any tariffs on us at all".

You really think PP would be better? Dollar for dollar tariffs can be put on at any time. While there are still talks on its best to be play them out and keep your powder dry. Let other go. Lets see what happens with Brazil work with partners. As for public sector, we are talking about a 3 year restructuring. Mostly from attrition. I doubt anyone is against the govt becoming more efficient. Until the negotiations are over, there is no point trying to predict what might happen with the lunatic orange man

Ok fine, but you are not explaining how he’s standing up to Trump.

I think he's not doing a great job.
But the only point I was making was that saying he failed because he said there was no path to no tariffs with Trump didn't make much sense to me.

That was always a reality which is why dollar-for-dollar tariffs were used as a tactic.

Carney took it off the table. Saying tariffs cause inflation, only to bring tariffs back but now on China.

He’s all over the place.

dollar-for-dollar tariffs would still mean tariffs.

Carney took it off the table. Saying tariffs cause inflation, only to bring tariffs back but now on China.

He’s all over the place.
I agree he hasn't seemed solid, even allowing for how random and unfocused Trump has been.

Secondly, Justin losing the popular vote means what exactly? Take away Alberta votes, does he still lose the popular vote? NO HE DOES NOT!!! If anything, it says a lot more about how Carney won the popular vote despite Alberta.

Thirdly, did he win, was he not the PM for 10 years or are you going down the MAGA rabbit hole claiming otherwise?

Perhaps you should step back and think about who your PM was for 10 years before Carney took over after being hand-picked by that PM that lasted 10 years.
You discussed popular vote. I pointed out the flaws.

I Overview

The U.S. economy is heavily weighted towards services, which make up a larger portion of GDP than goods. While the economy includes both goods and services, the services sector, encompassing areas like healthcare, finance, and technology, contributes more significantly to overall economic output and growth. This split reflects the transition of developed economies towards service-based economies.
Every penny of tariffs is paid by US consumers.

A couple of articles but oddly no citations in other studies.
Still, that study rings fairly true.

If you're a ripper like butler you're dancing at the rise of white supremacist accelerationists.
If you're a weaver you're trying to look at this basic failure and think of how to reengage the public and force politicians to act on voters instead of lobbyists.

But I'm not sure proportional representation or any other voting changes fixes this until you can assert more voter pressure than lobbyists hold. But that also depends on having representatives that have a chance of winning and aren't controlled by lobbyists. That is the hard part now.
