I have been a lurker for 2 years now and this will be the first time Im gonna post something here. Whoever post this thread or anyone who thinks he is above beyond any other race, BETTER LOOK AT YOURSELF FIRST and answer this questions yourself. 1. Is your stool made of gold? 2. Does your stool smells so fresh? OR IS YOUR HEAD FULL OF SHIT? Your the one who deserves to be buried down the bowels of this earth and flushed in to decay forever? My cousin owned a house that backed onto an open lot a few years ago. He paid almost $280,000 for the house which was nice middle class. Last year a muslim community initiative bought the lot behind his house as is their right to do. They built a mosque with one of those. . . minarets? You know the tower where they yell prayers, I guess. I really don't know. Anyway, his property value deteriorated rapidly and as of this past June his property was valued by estate agents to be around $180,000. His neighbour just sold for $177,000 on a house that was bought for, something like, $300,000 10 years ago. This did not happen in Scarborough but in Burlington which is quite WASP so I'm a little off topic here. Just trying to highlight one instance where something different (e.g. immigration, culture, religion) effects people in ways they never thought would happen. I'm sure some guy sometime somewhere in Ontario in the 1800's had the same problem when a catholic church was built by his house. Attitudes change with the times. Before people start attacking me - my cousin had an estate agent actually tell him that if it was a catholic church that was built instead of a mosque he would have no trouble selling it for a profit. I wonder who we will be vilifying next century? Go figure.
Well I have to disagree here. I had a house in scarborough when I first moved here I paid 75,000$ my mom has lived there 10 yrs without incidence in a "rough" neighbourhood (it was our first home in canada and a starting point) last week it sold for 140,000$ so now we moved to a nicer area STILL in Scarborough. Although I have not lived in canada much in the last few yrs I know that there has never been any hassles, robberies, or breakins to me my familly or anyone I know. The one bad thing where we are in car vandalisim, but I far rather have my car screwed with than my home and my saftey (also note that this happens in any large parking lot too). Those that know me know I sit at home (when there) and have my front door open from morning to night, 3-4 am even. I also live across from a liquor store and a convience store and whatever has happened has never affected me.I have a place in Downsview and don't like it as much there.frankcastle said:

Business is not my forte, I should have said that the values of the homes in Scarborough are relatively low. E.g. It sounds like you guys had a house and it sold for $140 000. Downtown or say richmond hill that you probably need $150 000 just to buy a one bdrm condo.
Anyways, I stand corrected.
Guess what I was trying to get at was the person who claimed that Sri Lankans were decreasing the value of homes in the area. I strongly disagree with that statement and believe real estate value is dictated by location, size, features and condition moreso than by neighbours.
Okay I just read Dj1480's post, so there are extreme examples of neighbours decreasing the value, but it that case I wonder if its more of a noise issue and therefore if your house was beside anything else noisy it too would be of lower value (e.g. being near traintracks)? But isn't that always a risk that anything could be built in an open lot (within zoning regulations) near your home, so perhaps the lesson here is not to buy a home near undeveloped land?
Kinda off topic but did you guys do much renovations to the place over the 10 years?

it had not been touched in 30 yrs when we got it. we gutted the bathrom and the kitchen that's all we did and paint of course. bathroom totally gutted and redone custom 5,000 kitchen new floor LOTS of white paint over dark wood and a new counter 900$ a few plumbing calls MAYBE 3 at 50$-75$ each. that's about it.
my place I sold witht the bit of work was a stacked condo 2 bedroom 2 bath own laundry no basement

Actually Scarborough looks pretty good compared to some of the native communities in the north and west. It is surprising that these places exist in our great country.. but the majority of Canadians are not aware of these places as they have not seen it on television or visited them.
Frankcastle. You make some interesting points. However, the fact that professionals from any country immigrating to Canada working as taxi drivers, gas station attendants, etc. is the fault of who?
With the shortage of doctors, etc., it would be wonderful to see additions to our professional ranks as long as they qualify and meet the standards that are set in our country.
In these cases, it is probably not enough due diligence from both sides - professionals doing enough research to see if they qualify to practise in Canada and our government, in not doing enough to provide the necessary information.
Regarding the BO issue, some people on this thread are fixated that this is a color issue. Body odour pollution, spitting on the ground is a matter of etiquette and hygiene. If you're willing to accept this in our society so be it.
Your bleeding hearts probably see nothing wrong with people tossing their garbage in anywhere they want.
As for the poster calling for shutting this thread - remember one thing -- we are all posting on a forum within an escort review board. This already isn't the board of the politically correct.

But admittedly there are cultural differences and the problem there is noone makes an effort to teach these to new immigrants.
Anyways, I think people are mainly upset about the fact that you made such a broad negative generalization about an area and blamed it on immigrants.
And the reasons that I find this objectionable is that
1)you are letting a minority represent the majority (i.e. a few bad apples)
2)to place the blame on immigrants is silly since the problems exists everywhere be it BO, spitting or littering
E.g. for BO ask any grade 7 or 8 teacher
for spitting look for smoking teens
for garbage look at any general admission concert (when I went to SARstock the amount of garbage left behind was incredible and its not like there weren't enough garbage cans)
