England will be very hard-pressed to qualify for Euro now.
1-2 loss against Russia took care of that.

Not a good day people, not a good day :(

We can still qualify but we're depended on other results, its out of our hands.

If Russia loses against Israel we can still do it, but then we have that tough Croatia match at home.

I dunno folks, I dunno :(

The Swiss and the Austrians would put on a brave front but I don't think they'd be very happy if both England and Italy were eliminated.

Worse still, the way the French have been whinning since the World Cup, if they qualified, it would turn my stomach.

as long as they don't play another 3-5-2 against Croatia, they'll be fine...

Goodness, I loathe Mclaren...

Not quite out, but certainly being handed their hat. Some poor results from earlier made away to Russia almost a must win. See Ya Steve. Not a world class team anymore.

looking back on England's campaign well when you draw the mighty Macedonia 2-2 and 0-0 you dont really deserve to qualify, the upside that joke of a manager gets fired, they hire the Special One aka Jose Mourinho and start all over for 2010 WC, ahhh one can dream :D

Hey if England can't beat Croatia at home then they don't deserve to be in ... Your trying to enter a tournment that crowns the best team in Europe and so you should be able to win a home contest against another Euro power ..
Not exactly. Russia has a game in hand on England (against Andorra), so effectively England is third in their group and they have to hope Israel can beat or tie Russia. Croatia has a game in hand against Macedonia before they play England. A Croatian tie or win against Macedonia and Croatia is in. Israel will have nothing to play for so it depends on whether they show up for the Russians, not likely, here is why. Abromowich (sp?) sponsors the Russian team. He is also Jewish with close ties to Israel, you get where I am going. It's not like it has never happened in Soccer;)

That said, even if England doesn't make it, no big deal. They are tactically inept and a boring team to watch. They will only lose on penalties anyways.
The best part is they can rebuild the national team and get rid of the overrated Fat Frank Lampard and John "I want a 10 year contract that guarantees I am the highest paid on the team and an option to coach when I retire" Terry.

I am so glad the Germans created the word schadenfreude, I am feeling it baby.

Germany 0 Czech Republic 3

Talk about putting the malocchio (evil eye) on a team; Franz Beckenbauer called Germany the best team in Europe.

The Czech did it without Nedved, Rosciky, Hamsik and Jankulovsky.

...Abramovitch is Jewish...how the hell did Yeltsin allow him to become an oligarch!?!?

Italy 2 South Africa 0

The Italians hit the woodworks three times before finally connecting. What is ominous about this game is that not a single player that played against Georgia on Saturday participated in this match. And with the exception of Lucarelli every player was under 25 years of age.

Couldn't agree with you more. England not making Euro 2008 might be the best thing for that country....finally get them to realize what a disaster their international squad is....how lacking in imagination and creativity they are. Maybe they can concentrate on producing highly skilled players who can actually create and exploit scoring chances.....

Germany qualified Saturday, so they probably had no motivation today.

Friendlies are well meaningless...Scotland blew their chance today, they'll be hard pressed to beat Italy at home now...

Germany had already qualified, and the Czechs were going to qualify, the game was meaningless.
That said, right now, I don't think there is a dominant team in Europe, Beckenbauer may not be far off. Not saying Germany is the best, but there is no team that is clearly better. I think Spain, the Netherlands, and France have more individual talent than Germany, but I can't say they are better.

While its easy to point the finger at Mclaren...the players have to take the blame at some point. Just seems as though England doesn't have too much depth at the present time. I didn't see the game, but where is Gerrard on the international stage? I dont see him scoring crucial goals like I do for Liverpool (not so much this season).

There's always 2010!! Maybe they'll have solved their goalkeeping problem by then.
