Today several US states announced they will refuse to accept any Syrian refugees out of safety concerns for their citizens. What are the chances that Ontario does the same.

I'm guessing that these are the same states who refuse free Obama care putting politics ahead of their own citizens. They will politicize anything by ringing the familiar cord of panic and racial hatred. I'm not sure why this should be news to anyone.

Someone asked why ISIS hasn't done much in the US since they are the principle participants in bombing them. The US has armed citizens fighting each other - what could ISIS do that competes with the slaughter of 20 school children, mass shootings in theatres (suck it ISIS - it's been done), universities, bombed federal buildings ...etc. Basically these states bucking the immigration of terrified refugees running for their lives are the same states the refuse to put in gun licenses to curb the slaughter of 30,000 of it's own citizens. The irony is amazing.

Heard on the TV that Canada is focusing on families as potential candidates. I guess the assumption is that a man or woman with 2-3-4 or more little kids is unlikely to be a terrorist. Time will tell.

Also heard they will accept U.N. refugees in various places other than those migrants through the Ukraine or Europe.

"This selection process and the subsequent vetting undertaken to verify the applicant's biography takes a long time -- up to 3 years -- and is normally exhaustingly thorough."
The U.S. process can take up to 3 years. Canada can do it in 2 months.

"Moreover, the Tsarnaev brothers were not themselves even applicants for asylum. At less than 10-years-old, they were too young to be vetted, and they received derivative status from their father who had, indeed, come to the U.S. fleeing war-torn Chechnya."
So, we just hope for the best with the kids.

Jobs's biological father, Abdulfattah "John" Jandali (b. 1931), was born into a Muslim household and grew up in Homs, Syria.[9] Jandali is the son of a self-made millionaire who did not go to college and a mother who was a traditional housewife.[9] While an undergraduate at the American University of Beirut, he was a student activist and spent time in jail for his political activities.[9] Although Jandali initially wanted to study law, he eventually decided to study economics and political science.[9] He pursued a PhD in the latter subject at the University of Wisconsin, where he met Joanne Carole Schieble, a Catholic of German descent who grew up on a farm in Wisconsin.[2][9] As a doctoral candidate, Jandali was Schieble's teaching assistant although both were the same age.[10] Mona Simpson (Jobs's biological sister), notes that her maternal grandparents were not happy that their daughter was dating Jandali: "it wasn't that he was Middle-Eastern so much as that he was a Muslim. But there are a lot of Arabs in Michigan and Wisconsin. So it's not that unusual."[10] Walter Isaacson, Steve Jobs's official biographer, additionally states that Schieble's father "threatened to cut Joanne off completely" if she continued the relationship.[2]
