Liberal Nonsense

Your assuming that Dion, Layton or the Seperatist know better than the mandate the canadian people gave the conservatives?

Quag
Liberal nonsense? 2 articles from the 2 most right wing papers in the country.

Canada didn't give him a mandate and didn't give it to him in the previous election (2 minority governments).

I'm not happy with the situation either buddy but give your head a shake.

Cheers.

I saw some tape yesterday of Harper in the House of Commons. At the end of his somewhat rambling discourse, the Conservative caucus gave him a standing ovation. Well, SOME of the caucus stood up.

A couple of them, most notably Stockwell Day, sat stone-like in their chairs.

If Harper doesn't resign of his own accord, I suspect that he'll be find himself pushed out of his job.

Conservatives, particularly, don't like losers. Though Harper won the election, he didn't get the break-through he worked for and still ended up with a minority against the charmless Dion.

And Dion has only agreed to stay on as the leader of the Liberals - even as PM, if that's how the GG plays it - until May, when there's a leadership convention.

As for the Bloc, they say that the separation agenda is off the table for 18 months (I think it was 18 months). So when Harper goes on about the Liberals "getting into bed with separatists," he's both wrong and massively wrecking his chances of getting any seats in Quebec.

As to what the GG is going to do, only she knows that, but I suspect Fuji is right: She'll be bound by precedent and give the nod to the Lib/NDP coalition.

GG's on her way back right now. It's going to be an interesting few days...

It's been a while since the Globe and Mail was a right wing newspaper.

You must be an old feller, huh? :D

Given the true nature of the assholes in question, they'd probably shoot her, then burn her. Then, within minutes, Fiji will be here to kindly let us know why burning her is, in fact, allowed under parliamentary rules.

Yeah right

Two bastions of conservative thinking:rolleyes:

Give a break what else do you think these liberal left wing newspapers would say? Keep Harper? Love Harper?

Get a grip.

Simply because they object to Harpo's politics doesn't mean they have switched from their traditional editorial stance of progressive conservatism. Oh and I read it every day ... including all the papers with the exception of the Sun which has turned itself into a rag and is not like paper it was when Les Pyette ran it ... in other word Les hired people that could actually write. Yes this also mean I read Lord Steals a Lot's National Post.

So you're suggesting the unelected representative of a hereditary monarch should be giving an ultimatum to the elected representatives of two thirds of Canadians ordering them to support the choice of the minority?

In truth that is how it works: if a minority government can't find supporters it can work with, it gets defeated and we go to the polls. Perhaps the GG needed to make it clear to Mr. Harper. In a democracy the majority rules. Keep 'em happy, or go to the polls and get your own.

And if you'll recall that 'or we'll go to the polls' big stick was what Stevie used on the Opposition the last time round and they kept him in office. But y'know getting your way by bullying is not how the system works, and the present situation's the proof.

Fact is: Harper's not competent, just too clever for his and the country's good.

Harper reminds me or Marty Schotenheimer (I must bespelling his name wrong) the NFL head coach. His teams always win in the regular season, but come playoff time they always fail. Harper is great at attacking the other guy, but give him control and everything he does goes wrong.

I wouldn't say that. Harper accomplished much more with his minority government than Martin did with his.

I'd say Harper was doing a pretty good job the past few years. The fact he gained more seats in the last election would indicate I'm not the only one who felt that way.

Lotta good that did him, eh?

I'd be forever pissed at Harper for letting 3 idiots run our country during what could be the most challanging period in recent memory.

Ask yourself, who in charge of the country when it blew up? As yourself who saw no serious problem even after the crisis started? Ask yourself who told Canadians this was a good buying opportrunity? (he may as well have said "let them eat cake") Dion may not be a good campaigner, but he is no idiot. If you believe that then you are easily convinced by hack campaign ads.

Exactly. Regardless how miniscule, was he not the only major party with an increase of support?
While the Cons increased the number of seats they hold more than the other parties, the NDP also increased their seats by 7 while the Bloc increased by 1. So the Liberals were the only one of the 4 major parties that won fewer seats this time than last time.

You do realize Canada's economy is still growing, don't you? You need to dump the hyperbole and get down to facts. A crisis is being manufactured and you are buying it hook, line, and sinker. Get ready to be broiled.

We are well positioned, and throwing good money after bad to rescue companies like GM is not what I want my government doing.

As for Dion being an idiot, basing your campaign on green taxes (especially with your "crisis") is about the most idiotic platform of all time.

So what chanaged? In the first round Harper stuck pretty closely to the platform he had run on in the election.

This time around the C's come out of the gate with a bunch of stuff that was NOWHERE in their election campaign, direct attacks on the opposition, mean spirited stuff against unions, hatred of pay equity...

I heard that the top advisors were replaced with Mike Harris era people. Sure sounds like it--that's the same old divisive stuff that the Harris team used to pull in Ontario.

Bring back the old Stephen Harper--the one who stuck to the mandate he was elected on and stared down the opposition ONLY when he knew he was pushing legislation they couldn't possibly fight an election over.

That is old data, the last vestiges of the boom. Kind like how a rocket will keep climbing after it's engines die. I agree we should not just dump money into GM, but there are many other things that can be done to lessen the blow of the recession for Canadians
