What happened to the Tigers to-night is what happens when you have starting pitchers who can't go 9 innings.

What he's saying is that bullpens are irrelevant. If the starters don't go 9 innings the team can't win.
Bullpens are relevant when the starting pitcher is in deep goo or injured, not when they are leading 5-0 and pitching a 2 hitter. But, God forbid they throw more than 108 pitches in this day and age.

P.S. I wish we had "relief pitchers" where I work so I can pack up 3 hours early and let them finish my shift.

I flipped the game off at 5-0, thinking Detroit was up 2-0 in a series today.
The Tiger manager pulled Scherzer(sp) out of the game early to give him extra rest in case there is a game 5. Sort of like pulling your starting goalie in the middle of the 3rd period in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

In any short series a manager has to able manage both the game and the series. This involves certain calculated risks. Inherently if you want to move a pitcher up in his rotation he has to make a few less pitches.

Leyland made the calculated risk -- as a manager you have to be able to take risks and not be afraid of the new pitchers coming in. Of course armchair quarterback types do not understand this concept.

I agree with Leyland's move. If it had been 1-0 or 2-0 I would have kept Scherzer in as the risk is not worth it given the score. But up 5, you have to manage the series as well. You have to assume your bullpen will be able to hold a 5 run lead. If a manager is unable to make this assumption, you might as well not even be a manager.

Dodgers in another must win game to-night. Kershaw expected to start for the Dodgers.

Tigers in a must win game to-morrow. A well rested Max Scherzer, who was liftd early in game 2, will start for the Tigers.

Who would have thought the Tigers would lose both games started by Max Scherzer:Eek:? Why can't the guy go more than 61/3 innings:confused:?

Red Sox vs Cardinals in World Series.

I don't blame Scherzer for either lose, the bullpen let him down. Also the Tigers bats were mostly dead this post-season. Mainly overpaid Prince Fielder, he gets $23 million a year, to hit a single every now and then. The fans here in Detroit are turning on him!

For those who think I know baseball or think I don't know baseball, I have to confess to calling 5 of 6 series wrong. Got Dodgers over Braves right. Now I am stuck with the 2 teams I wanted to lose playing each other in the series. going to be a long winter for the Tigers, especially Prince Fielder (at least Puig is young and so a bad series wont stain him)

Jim Leyland announced his resignation. Probably a good move for both parties.

I don't care for either WS participants, but I believe Cards will prevail in 6 or 7 games

Jim was definitely outmanaged by Farrell. Pulling Scherzer early in games 2 and 6 to save him for the WS were not the smartest moves, especially when you have a weak bullpen.

The WS will be played under American League rules and the Red Sox will have home field advantage for what it is worth.
