I think the media gave us just enough sensational info to attract attention to their advertising and it worked. Collateral damage is that every knee and jerk starts spouting 'standfast in self-defence' or 'stupid cops'.
When one of the fighters has to be treated in hospital it's not reasonable to imagine the police aren't gonna charge someone, and they already have a fair bit of evidence to substantiate those injuries, and apparently none for the burglary and alleged thefts. It's now up to the Crown to collect all the facts, and if the charges are dropped well and good. Too bad about the minor lingering consequences of the arrest itself, but you cannot get into a fight with someone and expect you won't suffer. Anyway, the fact that even more media reported the PM's phone-call should mitigate them.
On that note, one hopes Mr. Harper is privy to way more facts than we are, considering how reluctant pols usually are to be seen interfering and meddling with stuff that's sub judice. It wouldn't be nice to discover this guy was another vigilante-wanna-be who set an ambush with a plan to lay a beating on whoever he caught. Let's hope that when the facts do come out and justice is seen to be done that they don't reveal our PM was just another jerk.
