I think you are waaayyy over dramatic. It is worse in America were it is illegal for both girl and client ..... yet they do NOT sit outside condos grabbing guys. They got no proof of anything specific going on inside the condo. They cannot arrest based purely on association!!! THEY ONLY set up stings with undercover female cops posing as S.P. .... IN HOTELS. ... AND only on very few occations in areas were there is heavy street prostitution using the cheap motels on a stripCondo and I'll stay with a regular SP. Notice that they staked the place out and intercepting clients. So the fact that the original complaint or tip that the sex-worker was being exploited didnt' seem to matter. What mattered was nailing clients, one after the other. If it did matter, it would have been a priority to enter and investigate, check her papers and 'protect her' (deport her for being an illegal immigrant). But of course, it's a lot easier to issue fines on the spot, than to undertake an investigation into organized crime.I think there was a little more to the story in this case than simply that cops were targeting a condo.
The cops were there because another potential sex buyer had suspicions that the girl operating out of the condo was a victim of an organized trafficking ring, and contacted the police.
I don't think any of us (hopefully) would complain if that was how cops operated here.
Actually, there is a fly in the ointment. C-36 deems a boyfriend of a sex-worker to automatically be her pimp, and the burden of proof is reversed: he has to prove that he's a bona-fide boyfriend and not a pimp. So how do you prove a negative? That's another reason why this law is going to get tossed by the courts.NO one is ever arrested based only on association / time spent with another individual. MORE PROOF of some activity of a crime being committed. Again I say I do not know & do not care what other Countries do. Makes NO sense . Their standards of requirements for evidence to arrest could be different. I do know North America Law is based on British Common Law
.
Sweden is such a wacky place. Recently, a couple of asian ladies were denied entry into a bar because ther were asians, and asians were involved in prostitution. They sued for race discrimination and THEY LOST THEIR CASE!Is Sweden a non common-law country ? I thought that their legal system is closer to Britain than to France.
Also in Canada we have a non common law province ( Quebec) which still uses the french legal system .
I recall the bill c-36 exempts anyone who has moral obligation with a sex worker including a partner (boyfriend) .
It's going to happen because the Conservatives have a majority in the House of Commons, they have a moral agenda, and they think that that moral agenda is going to bring them votes in the next general election. So when is the date they vote for this C 36 law?
Most people are talking like its a given that the law is going to pass, how are they so certain?
I think he asked WhEN it's going to be voted onIt's going to happen because the Conservatives have a majority in the House of Commons, they have a moral agenda, and they think that that moral agenda is going to bring them votes in the next general election.
We've heard some positive reports regarding the Vancouver Police Department's intentions.I have noticed that the escort agencies are continuing to hire. I think back to a post earlier in the summer where a number of agencies had a meeting with the police, and I remember one owner posting on this site that the meeting was "positive and upbeat." I wonder what they were told.
I'm curious why you've gone from being very upset to accepting it now and even playing it down? That the new laws not much different then the old. That like the old communication law cops will apply the law to keep the streets clean, apply were needed in complaints esp related to underage & forced prostitution & continued application to investigate Human trafficing
If you have read my posts time & time again I have said Police will honour community standards & priorities & will not go on a crusade against guys. Perhaps occasionally in the more seedy area such as on The Lakeshore & Kingston rd were girls are working the streets & bringing guys to seedy motels..... the cops will set up stings.I'm curious why you've gone from being very upset to accepting it now and even playing it down?
I believe I know the answer but I learned a long time ago it's never good to assume.
We don't know that they will not go on a crusade because the law has yet to be enacted. Many didn't believe Daddy Mackay would have come in with such a strong armed idiotic bill either. I hope you're correct in your belief but remember a new Police Chief will be coming in, luckily Hudak didn't win and Wynn I would think but not 100% that she will not tow the Federal Reform Party line.If you have read my posts time & time again I have said Police will honour community standards & priorities & will not go on a crusade against guys. ALSO by it's very nature regardless of enforcement I do not support C-36. I support licencing or some kind of de-criminalization & monitoring.
Different police departments have different enforcement attitudes. I believe that Toronto Police Service is a lot more permissive than York Regional Police. The new Toronto Police Chief has to be mindful of community standards and going on a crusade could put him in conflict with local politicians. If he's spending an inordinate amount of his budget on a crusade, it might take away from enforcement of other laws that are of more benefit to society. If he's coming from the TPS, he probably will not make any drastic changes because he is already part of the local police culture. We don't know that they will not go on a crusade because the law has yet to be enacted. Very intelligent post, Nancy Wynn is herself a visible minority and I cant see her being very supportative of this bill which isDifferent police departments have different enforcement attitudes. As for Wynn, she can just tell her Attorney General to get the Crowns to ignore prostitution busts, so that police will get the message to stop wasting their time. It's all a matter of priorities. But this is complete conjecture on my part.

The line of reasoning certainly seems logical. One can hope. The new Toronto Police Chief has to be mindful of community standards and going on a crusade could put him in conflict with local politicians.
