The OPP have several vessels on the Bay of Quinte and eastern Lake Ontario, ready to enforce boating rules as the pike and pickerel season opens.

Officers from the Prince Edward and Napanee detachments will be looking for boaters who bring alcohol out on the water.

They'll also be checking to ensure that everyone on board has a life jacket, and that all boats have flashlights and sound signalling devices.

The pike and pickerel season opens on the bay and the eastern part of Lake Ontario next Saturday.

Gee the OPP actually enforcing the law, how shocking and maybe saving a life because they want you to have and wear life jackets.

Having been on the water in a sailboat and being harassed by idiot Seadoo goons, I have no mercy for jerks like that. You're on the water with the same responsibilities as if you were on the road. Are you saying they should patrol? I'll guess you were some of the members who figured it's okay to drive at excessive speed beyond the posted limits.

You really are a piece of work NB.

Perhaps you'd like to count the # of boat launch ramps in Bay of Quinte and area? Probably a whole lot less manpower required to do it their way. Or do you think only the public ramps need patrolling since no private dock owner would think of shoving off w/o all required safety devices and such?

We know NB understands what a 100,000 represents, but I'm not sure he could actually count that high. This is another one of his 'I don't hate/disrespect cops, but' posts.

OH MAN - YOU DO SO NOT WANT TO FUCK WITH ME ON THIS, SO DON'T EVEN BOTHER REPLYING BECAUSE I WILL RIP YOU TO SHREDS!!!!!!

I know someone who was senselessly killed in a boating accident, and in my view, there can never be enough cops on the water doing their jobs properly. Alcohol, combined with inexperience, combined with people who do not know the rules leads to death. What happened to the person I know defines the word tragedy perfectly - and it could have been avoided both with better enforcement and better knowledge of boating rules.
So ...the cops were not able to save them... and some how you think it helps because they are there? How?

Oh...and if they cannot supply the man power to police the ramps you somehow think they can effectively police the massive lake and all the bays? lol

The owner of the boat took a throw rope which had a Javex bottle with some water in and spun it around over his head like a bolo. The chicken shits rode off when they realized what we might do.

Contrary to what you might think, the cops can't be everywhere. So your solution is since they can't be everywhere you'd prefer they be nowhere.

So just be lucky they haven't decided to use shadow boat, disguised as fishermen, so they can sneak up on you. Your argument is bogus. What do you have to fear if you're following the boating regulations.

Again your position is because they can't be everywhere, they shouldn't be anywhere. You've been doing so well lately, but you're back to being a brain dead moron.

I've been boating on Georgian Bay for over 30 years, and I've seen police boats maybe twice ever. Extra enforcement to protect idiots from themselves drinking on the boat or crashing is a waste of time. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. It's not like drunk driving; it's rare thatba drunk boater kills anyone but himself and his passengers.

None at all, I don't do much boating. I just think it is a big fat waste of money.

No I said there is no need to increase enforcement. 36 people die in Ontario each year in boating accidents. WHO GIVES A FUCK!!! If someone does not carry a life jacket and they die... TOO FUCKING BAD!!! Of course driving around in your OPP boat oggling at nubile bikini clad bodies is much more fun then going after real criminals.

Well, someone more knowledgeable in policing technigues than you has decided the enforcement that has been done to date has been too affective and it needs targeted a targeted enforcement strategy similar to what is played out in various Ontario communities. The best example has been Mississauga, where the program has been a great success.

Some people die regardless whether they wear life jackets, especially from collisions with other boats or Seadoos.

Of course you're the one that seems to be deciding that 36 deaths is alright and they shouldn't try to lower that number. I have not doubt you'll change your tune if/when you loose someone in a boating accident.

no where in the report does it say there will be an additional cost for all this enforcement. I suspect the same number will be used as usual, but the emphasis will be in certain areas. Of course with your in-depth knowledge of policing technics, know better,

I do, asswipe!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I can probably show you literally 1,000 other people who think so too. They were the ones that not only crammed, but stood outside the funeral home, during the funeral of the person I know.
They cared about the death not that it was boating related...I doubt those 1000 people became boat safety activists... Spending tons of money to save 36 lives is not really sensible.
