For those who wanted more 1st round picks, here you go.

For those who wanted to get younger. Here you go.

For those who wanted to dump mediocre assets. Here you go.

For those who wanted room for the young players to play. Here you go.

For those who think this is a bad deal. #@*# @%%

Only time will tell...
Apparently both Burke and Wilson have some life left with the Leafs. Meanwhile for the remaining of the year, why not engineer another block buster trade with the Oilers and let both team compete for the honor of being the door mat of NHL 2009-2010. *Yikes*

I think Phaneuf will now be more motivated than ever to prove all the naysayers wrong and play up to his potential as one of the TOP 4 defenseman in the league. This guy is a "5 tool" hockey player and they don't come around very often.

Great Defenseman are a rare commonity ..... I am just saying calling on GM's and say Phaneuf is on the block and so let the
bidding begin ... That is the best bid ???
If a Leaf fan had suggested this trade last week, he would have been ridiculed as day dreamer or something worse.

Just wondering how fans in Calgary feel about this trade. I just hope Phanneuf is not what Vince Carter was like in TO in his last year. Until kaberle is traded, he and Phaneuf may form a dynamic duo that can produce a lot or points for both and help out the power play.

Trades are not as easy to do nowadays with the cap. Hagman is bringing with him 20 goals, and Stajan while not a #1 center on most teams is a decent play maker that still has some upside. His pass first mentality will probably help jerome's game. For now, that stats between white and phaneuf are pretty much the same but white makes like 1/5 or 1/6 of what phaneuf makes. Mayers is a thrown in essentially but he has grit. I'll say for the short term Calgary made a pretty decent deal that addresses their issues up front while still keeping relatively the same level of defense for the time being.

Why does everyone want to trade Kaberle ??? Why not build from the goaltending out and have a strong defenisve unit which will only make Schenn stronger ... Your might as well be strong at something
and hang your hat on defense .. Trading Kabarle for a winger or draft pick will only weaken he strongest component on the team ..
That's what I'd like to know....or is the typical maple leafs attitude that you can't have any GOOD players on the team, just a bunch of no-bodies? What is he, top in the league for defencemen scoring?

Ian White: shit, you listen to the announcers and follow his play and he was a consistant worker. I've said this before and I'll say it until the end of time: give me a team of blakes and whites and I'll get you the cup every year. No good days, no bad days, just consistant pressure. Lookit the penquins for eg: crosby and malkin have a bad game, the team loses.

One other thing: ever notice that when a player is traded from the leafs they do pretty well with the new team? I think travis green is the only one that didn't in the last few years. Look at Hal Gill: went on to win a stanley cup, Dave Andreychuk, a cup with Tampa Bay, Wellwood, went a lot farther than the leafs with Vancouver.......

All this talk about draft picks, who gives a rat's ass? Where are those picks now? Other teams?

Why is it that no matter who is in the front office, the same shit gets played on the ice.......>>>????

Oh yeah, and wasn't it great that Raycroft beat the leafs while STILL on their payrolll? Holy crap, that's like me paying for someone else's addition to their house.......

Phaneuf just got two smacks to his oversized chin; he was left off the Olympic Team and he's been traded to the Leafs. I get the feeling that he's genuinely pissed off at the moment. The opposition better keep their heads up, when he steps on the ice he's good to be in a drunken Bob Probert mood.

I doubt Leaf fans will be calling him Phancul.

I will make your point for you ...The Leafs got Keith Aulie a player as recently as last year played on the Canadian Jr's and so we did fill a bit of the prospect cupboard ..
Nice of you to make that point but i already did it.......see post #34

Kaberle and Phaneuf could probably play 30 minutes a game. D-FENCE! D-FENCE! The best offence is a good defence.

I don't see how either of these trades does anything to build Leafs into a winning franchise.

Calgary clearly perceives Phaneuf to be a toxic asset because he is costing 6.5 million a season; but only delivers about 3 M worth of hockey. So, with Phaneuf you just inheret someone with a quality deficit of 3.5 M a year built into their contract based on what they deliver.
Giguere counts for 6M against the cap (even though actual salary is 7M) ; but, again he only delivers about 2M a year worth of hockey. So here you are sitting on a quality deficit of about 4M a year based on what Guigere delivers and what he costs. They should both fit in perfectly in Leafland.

I think the Burke era with the Leafs is shaping up to be a complete disaster. Burke already has egg all over his face because of the Kessel deal. There is no way he would have made that trade if he understood how awful the team he was dealing with was. Leafs could have the #1 pick overall in the NHL draft both this year and next year; but, Leaf management is so breathtakingly awful that those 2 assets are already owned by another team.

Could someone explain to me all the bs regarding draft picks? I mean really. If there's some hot shit player out there better than crosby then maybe it makes a difference but frankly, just about anyone the leafs have "drafted" they eventually trade them off to someone else. So BFD if they get a 1st round pic, they won't do anything with it...oh I know I know, it is supposed to be about the future of the team but when they keep trading players for other lousy or "so so" players and don't let their draft pics play, so what?

I mean really. I'm so sick and tired of the make me laffs just trading for the sake of trading. Are we ever going to get a reasonably decent team? One that will play over 500???

Who won the trade....Isay Boston as they are now guarenteed the #1 or #2 pick at this year's draft.

Let's hope that Taylor Hall / Tyler Seguin are the new Alexandre Daigle
They only get the #1 pick IF they win the draft lottery. They get the most ping pong balls in the draft lottery IF the Make Believes do indeed finish last overall, and I don't see that happening.

Hey guys check out this post some dumbass Bruins fan made about the Leafs one of the NHL message boards!

Probably the most idiotic post I've read in some time!!!

Any comments to this post would be appreciated...

"Memo to Cliff "bob barker" fletcher..retire already!!!.hagman-stempniak-jeff"gimme the"finger--cant blame those mistakes on john ferguson jr. buddy--now a memo to brian burke--Last time I checked, the nhl had a salary cap!! He is picking up where ferguson left off as far as overpaying for his back end!! Over 32 mil invested in 5 D'men and one goalie?? Wtf?! If he is seriously going to build around phil kessel, the leaf fans are going to be waiting well into the 22nd century for a stanley cup parade--He isn't that kind of player--too moody!! And takes too many nights off!! Which brings me to my next question--burke said he wants only hard working players on his team-then why did he ink kessel to a 5 year deal? Hard work and kessel is like george w. Bush and honesty..Burke is being desperate now to save face--how bad would he really look if the bruins step up to the podium come june and make the first overall selection? Trust my comments..trust that burkes ego is bigger then the city of toronto..trust that the leafs will average one goal or less the remaining 26 games..trust that the michelin man(giguere)can't even stop a beachball these days let alone a puck..Trust that al strachan is absolutely right about brian burke..DON'T trust leafstv..DON'T trust the Tor.Sun and DON'T trust there ever being a stanley cup parade on yonge st in your lifetime."
