Can't wait to see the Leaf's new number 7 in action. He will make us forget Borje Salming.
#7 is Garnett Exelby. do you drool over him?

guyroch I disagree. For the first time I see some light at the end of the tunnel. Lets face it Hagman is, at best, a 2nd liner, Stajan a 3rd liner, White a 4th D man and Mayers an AHL player. We didn't lose much.

Getting Phaneuf now makes Kaberle expendable at the deadline. In return we should be able to get a front line offensive player. Now its time to dump Toskala and run.
Very well said, and very true!

So thoughts on Leafs 3 - Devils 0

First debut shutout since Ed Belfour.
Belfour and Giguere only Leaf goaltenders ever to get a shut out in their first starts with the team.

Why does everyone want to trade Kaberle ??? Why not build from the goaltending out and have a strong defenisve unit which will only make Schenn stronger ... Your might as well be strong at something
and hang your hat on defense .. Trading Kabarle for a winger or draft pick will only weaken he strongest component on the team ..
Agree. Kaberle is one of those rare puck carrying talents who don't come often So he has defensive flaws and is not the meatballs that Burke likes with his spaghetti. But without him who is going to carry the puck up the ice during power plays especially now that Ian White is gone?

Given the addition of Phaneuff and with Beauchimen and the much improved plays of Schenn lately, Komiserak is more expendable though I don't know his market value.

IMO, Leafs have one of the league's deepest and best defensive rosters on paper (and highest in salary??) It is about time that Ron Wilson and his defensive assistants would coach them into one of the better defensive units as opposed to being the worst in the last 1 1/2 years when they have been at the coaching helm of the Blue and White.

I know I'm jumping to conclusion way too fast. But tognight's game is one of those I feel comfortable that Leafs could win after they scored the 2nd goal. This is a feeling I don't have for a long time.

I don't know to what extent Giguere's game has digressed from his prime time, but he looked calm and was in position all night making all saves look easy. It is no fluke that he earned a shut out. Good goalies make the people play better in front of him - Gigurere has done that tonight. Just hope he could continue.

Phaneuff comes with a big sticker and has played to expectation. Schenn also played a superb defensive game tonight, perhaps the best I've seen him played all season.

The biggest surprise is Sjostrom. Together with Kulemin, the two could provide the power play defense that the Leafs so sorely lack.

with Phaneuf the Leafs just might capture the 9th place cup again this year. The don't even know how to lose properly. At least this year the don't have their first round pick, so finishing 9th won't be as bad as it has been the past few seasons.

Yes, Phaneuf and Giguere are "impact" players and "gamechangers". They are the difference between winning by 1 goal and losing by 1 goal (and the Leafs have lost every overtime game this year). The players we lost will never be all-stars and at least one is only AHL calibre.

He's got the size of Sundin, the meanstreak of Roberts, the Pug face of Domi and the checks of Dougie. Geez, why is he so popular in TO already? :D Dude was born to be a Leaf.
