well in smithermans favour:

1. he was a drug addict
2. he has no hair or sense of humour
3. he mismanaged the min. of health
4. as a cabinet minister in the provincial gov't he did nothing for the city of toronto
Plus he's gay.
When he's hosting international events and banquets he'll be bringing along his boyfriend.

I know..I know, I'm being homophobic. But TBH, I dont give a rats ass if I am :p

Councillors take shots at 'Mayor Ford'

Some left-leaning Toronto city councillors weren’t pulling their punches when asked how they feel about the thought of Councillor Rob Ford becoming Toronto’s next mayor.

“In my opinion, if Mayor Ford is elected, city council will have a caucus meeting and they will choose their own mayor and (Ford) will be the mayor in name,” retiring Councillor Kyle Rae said Wednesday during the last city council meeting before the Oct. 25 vote.

“I hope that the citizens of Toronto wake up ... I can’t believe Toronto is prepared to do it.”

Rae stressed Ford has no track record of bringing items to council and getting them passed.

“All he has done is attack and vilify other members’ work, he has got nothing he can point to,” he said.

But would councillors really rebel against an elected mayor?

Rae — who Ford keeps slamming for holding a $12,000-taxpayer-funded goodbye party — says it is a real possibility.

“Most thinking people in Toronto would be so embarrassed by him being mayor that there would be an obligation on council to do something,” he said.

Councillor Howard Moscoe was a little more descriptive in how he sees a Mayor Ford interacting with council.

“He won’t be able to pass gas without the permission of council,” Moscoe said.

When asked if he thinks Ford will be able to work with council, he added: “Depends how often he wants to pass gas.”

Councillor Maria Augimeri said Rae may be right about council having to go rogue against a Mayor Ford.

“I have yet to know that he’s read a report, (the mayor) needs to be intellectually engaged,” she said. “You need to be able to be an avid reader and promoter of the city, simple pat actions won’t do, Band-Aid solutions won’t do ... there is no quick fix (for the city).”

The York Centre councillor said it’s “appalling” that Ford is ahead in the polls.

“But we’ve elected a clown before,” Augimeri said.

Although Mayor Mel Lastman wasn’t “intellectually engaged” he still could work with council, unlike Ford, she said.

“Mel had something that this guy just doesn’t have, he understood his shortcomings,” she said.

Councillor Adam Vaughan said the possibility of Ford winning is still up in the air.

“The ballot question has been framed, ‘Rob Ford? Yes or no,’” Vaughan said, adding the latest poll has 60% of the city saying “no” to the idea. “It’s just a question of where the no vote moves now.”

Asked whether he’s mulling a run at the mayor’s chair, Vaughan opted for a “no comment”.

Mayor David Miller — who stressed he’s not jumping into the race and isn’t polling the odds of a comeback — dodged a question about whether he’s worried about a Mayor Ford taking over.

“It’s up to the people of Toronto who they elect,” Miller said. “Lots of things get said in elections, some of them have some basis to do with facts.”

Early Wednesday, federal NDP Leader Jack Layton held up mayoral candidate Joe Pantalone as his favourite in the race.

The deputy mayor is trailing in the polls but vowed he’s the standard bearer of the left in this year’s race.

“Jack Layton’s endorsement means there is no illusion or some make believe progressive candidate,” Pantalone said. “There is only one progressive candidate in this race for mayor and that’s Joe Pantalone.”

Layton didn’t see a problem with a federal politician wading into a municipal race.

“I think it is important if you care about your city to speak out about the issues that lie before us,” he said.

The former Toronto councillor declined to share his thoughts on Ford.

Layton’s endorsement comes after Pantalone endorsed his son Mike Layton to replace him as the councillor for Ward 19.

Stop free lunch for council: Ford

Note to city councillors, after Oct. 25 brown bag it to council meetings.

That's the message from mayoral frontrunner Rob Ford who sparked an angry speech on the council floor by Councillor Shelley Carroll Wednesday when his campaign snapped several photos of council's mid-afternoon buffet.

A Sun photographer also tried to capture the post-lunch lunch but was rebuffed by City Hall security.

"When I'm mayor that food is going," Ford vowed Wednesday. "It's like literally a gravy train … like pigs at a trough."

Ford's photo foray into the backroom buffet caught the attention of Carroll and Councillor Paula Fletcher who scolded him behind the scenes, he said.

But Carroll also took her anger out on Ford during the public meeting - accusing him of trying to derail the $7 million in staff work that went into the city's draft zoning bylaw– which council pass late Wednesday – while obsessing over a "snack" that costs council just $8,870 a year.

"He's prepared to leave you hanging and waste $7 million of professional expertise while he's out back - he's probably out there now getting a picture of the finished plate," Carroll told her fellow councillors.

Ford doubted the budget chief's figures.

"It's probably $8,000 per meeting," he said.

Every year Ford tries to eliminate the free food costs, including coffee and tea for councillors during meetings.

He says that cost is around $88,000 per year.

I have a feeling this is going to be a very interesting election. hopefully huge voter turnout.
I can't remember a time when there was so much pre election controversy

What the hell is Kyle Rae thinking? Does he really believe that giving the finger to the voters will make people reconsider?

If anything, I suspect this type of arrogance only helps Ford.

It would depend on context andwether or not it damaged his reputation, I don't believe council chambers have the same freedom that parliment has regarding the slander laws in the chamber of parliment .

Howard Moscoe: "You are stupid"

We (thats anyone who's voting for Rob Ford) were called "stupid" yesterday on the radio by Howard Moscoe.

So now I'm not only gonna vote for him, but I'm gonna make a sizeable donation to Ford's election campaign

You haveto wonder if they actually know who they work for? The fct that they are planning to work around the only elected official in the city with a city wide mandate is scary, and when you add in the fact that they are doing it because the voters don't know any better it really gets to the lowest availble level.

I wonderr if there is a real candidate running against Moscoe , Aguilara et al that could use some help

Apparently he doesn't even know how to work email properly now: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/torontomayoralrace/article/853234

I love how much of an idiot he is, what I don't love are the idiots that are dumb enough to vote for his empty promise about policy he has no clue about.
All that proves is the person<s> handling his email is not as efficient as the person handling the mayor's email.

I do know this, I know of an instance of someone emailing the Mayor, His local Councillor, and Rob Ford on a given issue, His Local Councillor responded ( Shiner ) Ford , even though he was not in his riding responded, and Miller . .. well a form letter response.

I like to knowing that he is vague and evasive now, before he has a chance to climb in the polls.
