If one lives in a world where one has to believe the narrative that everything Trump advocates is wrong, this decoupling thing is gospel.
If you step away from this rhetoric, you can see the U.S. has been trying to pivot to the Pacific as far back as Obama and perhaps even earlier. In this geopolitical narrative, the U.S. is still a key member of NATO but Europe steps up and keeps Russia in check. The Ukrainian war demonstrates that the Russian military is no longer the major threat to Europe it was several decades ago.

My opinion is that both parties have widened the Overton window. It's hard to find where the center is. I see suburban soccer moms arguing on Facebook about what's good for the country. Of course, they think the other party is the end of the country or at a minimum an existential threat.
Not too long ago, the Republican soccer moms would be happy with moderate Republicans like the Bush family and likewise Democrat soccer moms would support moderate Democrats like Clinton, Gore and so on. I personally don't see soccer moms supporting progressive candidates unless that's there only choice.
Here's an interesting news item that shows the move to the center by a prominent Democrat. I don't think I am being cynical to say this is totally a 2028 political move.

I sense much of U.S. recycling is virtue signaling. I'm not an expert on recycling, but I have heard some materials take more energy to recycle than it would be to produce new material.
Then you get into corporate recycling programs that are merely virtue signaling. You know like a program where the company says "made with recycled materials". Perhaps in reality the recycled materials cost more so the company uses only 10% recyclables to project a positive image.
There are businesses here that pay for cardboard and aluminum cans. If I watched the guys who fish these out of trash to make a buck, I guess I could learn a lot from what they leave behind. Plastic? Glass? Basic paper?
Because some people know the Chinese have direct and indirect subsidies behind the EV industry.
I have read that the Chinese government has pushed EVs for another reason besides export domination. China is not blessed with a lot of petroleum reserves.

A robust manufacturing sector IS national security. It's why Trump is coming after our (and Mexico's) auto industry. If you don't have a manufacturing base, you can't pivot to making weapons.

A few years back having to explain economics to him, I had to break it to him that the U.S. was in a recession all through Roosevelt's first two terms. World War 2 brought the U.S. out of the Depression and paved the way for over two decades of relatively uninterrupted prosperity.
