I think the teacher has an equal impact....scouser1 said:soooooo as a conservative you would say its the teacher's fault that he is in the gutter, not his own hmmm just what new type of conservatism do you subscribe to

Ontario needs many many years to recover from his time in office. It looks like we are going to need at least 10 if not more years of the Liberals.LancsLad said:Hey clubber. Boo Hoo.
We need Mike back again.![]()
So are you saying he would be better of if he never had a teacher. Perhaps never went to school. Conservative thinking through and throughonthebottom said:I think the teacher has an equal impact....

Perhaps you could actually name one of these mythical tax breaks reserved only for the rich that were granted by the provincial Tories. By the way the wealthiest financial institution in Ontario is the Teachers pension fund.clubber said:How about the Conservatives giving huge tax breaks to the very rich who own most of the media. Is that not buying their support?
They have a decent educational system there. Perhaps if a majority of the voters have had enough they can toss Mcquinty out ....that my friend is the true definitintion of democracy. This is not corruption, just Canadian Democracy in action. If you don't like it move to Cuba.
I'm saying the teacher isn't the deciding factor.....clubber said:So are you saying he would be better of if he never had a teacher. Perhaps never went to school. Conservative thinking through and through![]()
Again, you are looking back over decade, to someone that was disgraced and has left public life. Try to do better in your arguements about the current realities.maxweber said:When the Harris government was elected, John Snobelen became Minister of Education. The first day, he called together all the middle and upper level staff, and said: "I have a fourth grade education, and I'm a millionaire. All of you between 25 and 40, start shopping your resumes now." Then he walked out.

McGuinty gained power in October 2003 and his May 2004 budget projected educational spending increases of over $2B by 2007/08. And he's bolstered that amount even more in the meantime. I think if you are going to criticise McGuinty for inaction, you need to be a bit more specific about what he didn't do that he should have done to improve the situation in our schools. Yesterday I was talking to my neighbour who is either a principal or some honcho with the school board here in Toronto. He said the current funding formula has pegged the costs of things like wages and energy somewhere around 2001 levels so the biggest problem for school boards is how to steal money from educational programs to pay for things like heat and hydro which are much more expensive than they should be under this bogus formula. Apart from reconizing that the formula is faulty and topping up occasionally, what has McGuinty done that was so inappropriate for the Ministry of Ed.train said:........As far as Snobelen was concerned - yes that was a big mistake but, if you recall, it was Harris that fired him once it was realized. Actually the fact that someone is bringing up something that happened 10 years ago to just to gloss over the inaction of the current government is interesting. If the best one can do to justify the actions of the Liberals was to say someone 10 years ago who was education minister for eighteen months was worse.......well you have to admit , that's pretty lame.
One of my favourite conservative doctrines: crimes and idiocies are whitewashed by time. If something is "old news," then it doesn't count; it isn't wrong any more, it didn't have any consequences, and we're morally obliged to forget it as yesterday's news.Compromised said:Again, you are looking back over decade, to someone that was disgrassed and has left public life. And don't believe everything you hear about Snobelen.
That reminds me.......maxweber said:One of my favourite conservative doctrines: crimes and idiocies are whitewashed by time. If something is "old news," then it doesn't count; it isn't wrong any more, it didn't have any consequences, and we're morally obliged to forget it as yesterday's news.
Fortunately, there is an exception: Bill Clinton's sex life, which is always current and topical..
