I was at the game yesterday. Paid particular attention to Barger's at bats. He did have a K where he was reaching but all of his other AB's were solid. And of course he jacked a 3 run HR to win the game. It was a no doubter. But let's remember this is against an Oakland bullpen that is arguably one of the worst in MLB history. So take it for what its worth.

Barger is a left handed bat, something the club has sorely lacked in recent years. The other lefties Varsho and Santander were absent yesterday. The Oakland starter was a LH pitcher though. I've been impressed with Barger and more recently Clement. If these guys can continue to spark the bottom of the order then maybe, just maybe, we can sneak in for a wildcard spot. We do need to get Gausman back on track. But in fairness to him yesterday, many of the Oakland hits were soft singles.

Ryan Yarborough has become a great starter for the Yanks, Jays letting him go was a big mistake!

15 games, 2.83 ERA, .99 WHIP
last 3 games 17 IP, 1.58 ERA
Its amazing how guys who are pedestrian or have struggled can turn their careers around by joining the Yankees. Its a small sample size but he has given their rotation a big boost.

Series with the Phillies will be the litmus test for this team.
Im interested to see Romano.

I couldn't be happier about Addison Barger right now. Good for him. I still don't agree with John Schneider's lineup. It makes no sense. If they moved a few pieces around, this could be incredible. I would love to see Clase batting lead off, but that would never happen.

1) Clase
2) Bichette
3) Guerrero
4) Santander when he comes back
5) Barger
6) Kirk
7) Springer

Etc. etc.… One can only dream.

The Jays just batted MLB worse staff around, no big deal.

They are being saved by Springer and Barger and Captain Kirk who will be all star catcher

Runs will be scarce against quality staff

Good news is Vlad seems to be on pace like last year as this is the time of year he got hot

If Sandman gets well then he can be top homerun hitter

Picthing depth is a real concern with no hope when, not if, starters go down

The fact that the Red Sox and the Orioles (two teams who appeared to be the best contenders for a wild card entering the year in the AL) are absolute disasters.helps the Jays playoff hopes.

The "upper" middle (i.e wildcard contenders) of the AL is quite mediocre.

Hoping to contend for a wild card spot only postpones the inevitable.

Jays' Current Record: 31-28

Remaining games after June 2: 103 (50 Home/ 53 Away)

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct above .600: 26

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct .550 - .599: 9

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct .500 - .549: 25

Total remaining games vs .500 or higher: 60
Jays vs .500 or better: 11-19 (.367)

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct .451 - .499: 18

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct .400 - .450: 0

Remaining games vs teams with current win pct below .400: 25

Remaining games vs division, sub .500: 13

Remaining games vs sub .500: 43
Jays vs below .500: 20-9 (.690)

Remaining games vs teams with lower run differential, (Jays - 5): 39

(.367 * 60) + (.690 * 43) = 22 + 30 = 52/ 103.

Projected final record: 83-79

This isn't scientific, but it suggests that the Jays are on track to be eliminated from the post season sometime during their season-ending 6 game final homestand.

Their next 12 games are all against teams above .500, nine of them on the road. If they're below .500 at the end of that stretch, I would recommend trading expiring 'talent' contracts, (Bassitt, Bichette), immediately, plus Gausman and Springer, while they still have value as trade chips. The $47.167 million owed to them could acquire more in the open market between seasons than any future contribution they could make here.

Max would need to be healthy before he could draw anything in return, and the Jays would likely have to eat most of his salary for the remainder of his one-year deal.

As I posted about previously, Jonatan Clase and Addison Barger were my two most wishful thinking prospects going into this season. It was Barger's time to receive regular playing time. I have a feeling this is just scraping the surface of what to expect with this guy. I absolutely love his plate coverage. So dangerous with that bat speed and power. If only John Schneider would have this lineup makes sense.

I would love to see them try Clase at leadoff. However, I would move Springer up the order. He's got the top OPS on the team. I'd bat him 5th. I guess you put Varsho at 9th when he gets back?

Send Bowden Francis to the Bisons , he has given up the most HRs in the majors , make Eric Lauer a starter

francis hrs.png

44.3% of Francis' career runs allowed are from home runs, (39/88). This doesn't include men on base for those homers. This is probably an all-time record, not including position players pitching garbage time innings in blowout games.

For a full season, Bert Blyleven had 40.3% in 1986, (134 runs allowed, 50 HRs).

Maybe Bowden Francis could pitch to Vlad Guerrero, if he's in the home run derby at the all star break.

When I saw Jordan Romano in a Philly jersey, I laughed and yelled out TRAITOR!
Why??!! It was the Jays who decided not to offer him a new contract.
Dont blame Romano, its not his fault.

Phillies' pitcher on Wednesday night, Mick Abel, is a top prospect in his second Major League game. He pitched ix shutout innings vs Pirates on debut. No walks allowed through his first 11 1/3 big league innings.

Team is playing really good ball except for Bowden Francis.
They didn't have any logical solutions for him today, but with 2 days off over the next 8 days, he won't get another start with the Jays for a long time as they will have a few weeks to figure out a replacement.
