they had made the deal for Doc Halliday. He would have looked better than Pedro..
This may be true, however they probably would not have made the Lee deal and you would have Roy Halladay and Pedro Martinez.

Congratulations to all Yankee fans/backers. But, don't you think Philly fans are wondering ... what if we had Roy Halladay? He would have gotten 1, maybe 2 wins. 2 headed monster -- Halladay + Lee. Oh well. Back to the crappy Maple Laughs and the .500 Raptors. :D

Congrats to the Yankees fans ....

As for the halladay issue, I think anyone connected with the Phillies agrees they made a better move in getting Lee. Cost them WAY less and you couldn't have asked for more in terms of production. Rumor has it the Phils are currently talking to him about an extension.

More disturbing to me was Hamels performance. I hope his wife having the baby was the issue keeping him from pitching well and he rebounds next year. If he does the Phils will be starting pitching rich with Lee, Hamels, Happ, Blanton, Myers. They could then concentrate on restocking the bullpen. That was a dumb comment, they need to do that regardless of the starters LOL

That was the biggest difference in the series, the bullpens. Last year the Phillies had the best bullpen and they won. This year (with mostly the same cast) the bullpen was their downfall. Maybe filming that series for MLBTV wasn't such a good idea?

But the Yankees won it and you can't argue they are solid and worthy of the title. Hats off to them, it was their year!

Totally agree with you. They got Lee at a bargain basement price. But that's it -- they go him without having to give up anybody that the BJ wanted (Happ and some other good player). With Lee and Halladay, maybe you don't need to go to the bullpen as much -- both go deep in games. All I'm saying that the Phillies could have gotten Halladay and maybe the WS. Oh well.
Yeah, I thought the Phillies bullpen was their achilles' heel. But never thought Howard would be such a huge bust.

It is said if you win, the World Series, Stanley Cup, Super Bowl, etc, then any trade made is not bad because the team has achieved their goal of winning. I have heard that time and time again.
If the Phillies make the Halladay trade also then I believe they would have won easily. For Halladay I would have been rooting for Philly.
I think he will end up on the New York Yankees.

If I am correct the Jays wanted Happ and Kyle Drabek(son of Doug Drabek).

Howard is like a lot of sluggers, very streaky. When he's hot you're in deep shit if your the opposition. When he's not, the Phillies have to hope the others pick up the slack which is usually no problem. Utley did in the WS but others did not as they usually do.

IMO even a 7 game series does not always guarantee the best team wins. Guys get hot or cool off, the weather plays a part sometimes, etc. This year the best team (that money could buy but that's just sour grapes) did win.

There's a lot of chatter on the Phillie's boards about trading for Doc but I don't think it'll happen. They got Lee and kept their future. Doc is probably at a reduced rate now but I don't see who the Phillies have that the BJs would want. I mean, guys the BJs want that the Phillies would consider trading.

As it is since the Phillies cut Myers loose (no great loss there except he was decent in the pen at times) You got Lee, Hamels (I expect he will be way better next year), Happ, Blanton and either Pedro or Drabek. To me that's a pretty sweet rotation. Doc would make it killer but the last few years he has had his setbacks and seems to tail off in production at the end of the year. Which is why I think he wouldn't have done as good as Lee in the playoffs.

A lot of chatter about trading Werth for Doc but the BJs cut him loose before, would they really want him back? I see them still looking at prospects and the Phillies have plans for most of theirs. They do have excess in the outfield and need to make room for some of the young stars in waiting. I just don't see a fit in a trade between the BJ and Phils. Then again, with new management in TO who knows what direction they take?

I don't think the Phillies need Doc, they need bullpen help. TO does have some talent there but would they be willing to part with any? The most immediate concern is 3B, they are deciding (have until Monday) whether to cut loose Feliz. Most speculation has them looking at Beltre if Seattle doesn't resign him.

Thank god the parade is over, we can start looking ahead to next year.
