I wonder if there is some "handicapping" system that could be used with the filthy Yankees to level the playing field. Maybe, automatically subtract 2 runs from their total every game.

We use handicapping in sports like golf, horse racing and tennis, so why not baseball?

How is handicapping used in golf, horse racing or tennis? No individual is giving an advantage (i.e. extra points). Handicapping is only used for sports betting. It's meant to get the house "even" action so it doesn't risk taking a position and simply makes money off the winners (i.e. vig/juice).

Yeah, I also see a high scoring game -- Pettite on 3 days rest and Pedro on 4 days (but hasn't pitched much this year) -- I want to see a game 7 so I'm hoping for 6-5 Phillies.

Yeah, I could see why the Phillies might like to have a mulligan or two.

1) When I play golf I get a 30 handicap.
2) When I play a woman tennis player I get only one serve and she gets the outside lines.
3) In professional horse racing a filly gets a 5 pound weight advantage.

Never count out the Phillies. They seem to play best with their backs against the wall. AP isn't the same pitcher who was successful on 3 days reart earlier in his career and Howard is due to break out of his mini-slump. I'm more concerned about Victorino's hand, he is often a much needed catalyst. Cholly says he will go with Francisco in CF if the Flyin Hawaiian can't go.

And all this talk about Hamels .... I bet if they make it to a 7th game Hamels pitches and pitches extremely well. His pattern this year has been several mediocre or worse starts followed by a gem. He's overdue and if Cholly starts him it will be because he thinks Hamels is in the right frame of mind to win the game.

Regardless this has been one hell of a WS, no matter what happens. I hope Utley smacks one more dinger to get the record. If he does that and the Yankees win, who gets MVP?

Go Phillies!!!!!!

Gonna be a great game tonight and my money is on my Phils to take this series to the limit ..... Victorino is ok and in the lineup which is good news for the Phils. And they are the best road team in baseball. Old man Petit on 3 days rest ... I'm liking our chances.

two "old goats" as pedro said.
Anyone listen to Jim Rome and hear the take that they often play about Pettit? Where the "clone" says he has "the eyes of a goat"? I can't watch the guy pitch without thinking of that and LMAO.

Howard breaks record for strikeouts in a Series

8 hours, 42 minutes ago

NEW YORK (AP)
—Philadelphia’s Ryan Howard struck out swinging against Yankees reliever Damaso Marte in the eighth inning Wednesday night, setting a record with his 13th strikeout of the World Series.

Howard, who was MVP of the Phillies’ NL championship series victory over Los Angeles, passed Willie Wilson’s old mark. Wilson struck out 12 times for Kansas City against Philadelphia in 1980.

Howard went 2 for 5 in the opener, but got two hits the rest of the Series, including a two-run homer in the sixth inning in Game 6. He fanned four times in Game 2 and three times in Game 3.
