It will be fascinating to see if Pedro still has his mojo working. If he comes up even semi-big, that'll cement him for the HoF - WS wins for 2 different teams in 2 different series!

And you all know what I think of AJ "Burn-Up".

AJ chokes like AJ always does in pressure games!

Suprisingly he has tossed a gem thus far. 9ks through 7, 2 bb, 1 er.

Great game 2 so far.

Pedro reached guaranteed hall of fame status by the end of 2002. If he had voluntarily retired at that point, like a Sandy Koufax he still would have been a first ballot hall of famer. His peak dominance cemented him as not only a hall of famer, but an upper echelon hall of famer. He is one of the twenty greatest starting pitchers ever without a doubt. We have been lucky to see four of the greatest ever be great in the last fifteen years - Maddux, Clemens, Randy Johnson, and Pedro Martinez

His peak dominance over a seven year period from 1997-2003. is generally considered to be surpiassed by possibly only one other pitcher in the last 50 years. Sandy Koufax... and Sandy is considered one of the greatest pitchers ever. Sandy also has worst total career numbers then Pedro, as he struggled early in his career and he retired very early.

Adjusted ERA+ which is a good demonstrator of a dominant season. as it shows ERA compared to league averageand adjusted for ballpark, shows Pedro with five of the 33 most dominant season ever in that.

2000 - #2 Best Single Season All Time
1999 - #9
1997 - #18
2003 - #27
2002 - #33

Other ptichers with multiple seasons in the top 33 ever:
Walter Johnson - 4
Roger Clemens -3
Greg Maddux - 2
Christy Mathewson - 2

I realize I am bias, Pedro is one of my favourite players ever and I will attend his and Vladimir Guerrero's inductions into Cooperstown. But the stats show that he was one of the most dominant pitchers ever for a fairly long sustained period.

Sandy, like Bobby Orr, had his career cut short by a major injury. His win number would have been greater if he had a better hitting Dodger team supporting him. Also, he was only average in his first 3-4 years.

Thanks for the schooling, Maurice. Can you give me the same stats for the Big Unit, whom I would class as equal to Maddux, Clements and Pedro as the best of our generation?

Sandy Koufax pitched in the best pitcher's park ever, his hitters hit in the worst hitters park ever. Saying his hitters hurt him statistically is a bit proposterous, when he gets credit for his great ERA's which were much aided by the park.

Pedro Martinez for a seven year period was as good, or nearly as good as Koufax at his peak. I'll give Koufax the edge due to CG and IP, but that was an era thing as well.

If Koufax is an all time great, so Is Pedro.

I would probably go with Roger Clemens with the best pticher of the bunch, cause he was good for so long and had peak periods of domiant pitching in three decades (lets not get into roids).

I would certainly consider ranking Johnson as good or better all time then Pedro due to his career numbers.

Pedro just has the best five-seven year run amongst the group.

Here is the link to the stat you requested. Randy Johnson has six of the 100 best seasons ever (his high was #38) which is pretty great stuff. Pedro only has five, but they were five of 33 or higher.

I will also add, that some argued that the pitching was so watered down in recent decades, that its not fair to compare the best in this generation to an inferior average. It does have some merit - but I still contend the last 15 years was a golden age for elite starters ... we had great quartet of pitchers that may never be matched and I don't know if they were appeciated as much as they deserved.

Think of a pitcher like Nolan Ryan who is nowhere near as good as those four. is probably seen as more legendary and great.

I think The Ryan Express will be remembered for the 5 no-hitters. No one has come close to that.
