You mean salaried employees? No, they don't get tipped. Although I would get my school bus driver a year-end gift if I used one. I always tip my taxi/uber driver. Why? Do TTC Bus drivers, School Bus drivers, Go Train drivers, TTC train drivers get tipped?
This is why most good people in Canada will tip, but you might hear from our residential cheapwad in the forum TeeJay who will try to explain to you it's okay not to tip servers, and at the end of the year he's got an extra $100.00 in his piggy bank.Tipping in restaurants and bars is expected, the servers are payed a reduced wage on the expectation of getting tips.
I believe city employees are unionized and well paid. Why? Do TTC Bus drivers, School Bus drivers, Go Train drivers, TTC train drivers get tipped?
I tip 20% on the total because life's been good to me, an extra five or ten bucks won't make ANY difference in my pocket, and I like to feel that everyone who encounters me is made a little better off, particularly if I'm having a good time. If service is particularly good I'll tip 30%.Tipping people because they are under paid is just the employer scamming the customers. I tip for the same reason most people tip, to avoid looking like an asshole.
But why are we obligated to tip in the first place? Simply put it is the government's fault for allowing businesses to pay their servers below minimum wage.
