Is it common to leave a tip in restaurants?

In the UK, there is normally a service already added to the bill.

And also, when doing an outcall, do the girls expect a tip?

And for both of the above, how much is the standard amount?

Tipping in restaurants and bars is expected, the servers are payed a reduced wage on the expectation of getting tips. This is unlike the UK.

I usually tip 20% of the final bill including tax but that's very generous. Most people tip 15% of the pre-tax bill.

In restaurants, I tip 10% of the total. I don't tip taxi drivers or escorts.

I tip taxi drivers, restaurants, for everyone in Cuba. :) I don't except tips or gifts, that's why I don't have gift lists on my site. Otherwise I don't refuse the tip or any gift, but absolutely not necessary .

Yup. 15-20% (pre taxes) is the norm. Ya when I was in the UK was surprised when I tried to tip, when paying my bill with a cc, and there was no option to do so.

In U.K. And Europe restaurant owners pay their waitstaff a living wage. Here it's expected that they will earn a chunk of their income via tips. Silly system I know.

Seems to me when paying by credit card or debit card the machine asks what percentage (or dollar amount) I want to tip.

I usually choose the 15% option, but I also note that the 15% is generally calculated by the machine's program on the "after tax" bill amount.

Tipping people because they are under paid is just the employer scamming the customers. I tip for the same reason most people tip, to avoid looking like an asshole.
But why are we obligated to tip in the first place? Simply put it is the government's fault for allowing businesses to pay their servers below minimum wage.

Most don't look pre taxes, they just look total.

Here I thought this thread was going to be about tipping escorts. What is the general rule for tips and that sort of thing

I will definitely tip at restaurants if the service is ok.

But for the high end spas which i intend to try out, i don't think i will.

Why? Do TTC Bus drivers, School Bus drivers, Go Train drivers, TTC train drivers get tipped?
You mean salaried employees? No, they don't get tipped. Although I would get my school bus driver a year-end gift if I used one. I always tip my taxi/uber driver.

This is why most good people in Canada will tip, but you might hear from our residential cheapwad in the forum TeeJay who will try to explain to you it's okay not to tip servers, and at the end of the year he's got an extra $100.00 in his piggy bank.

I tip 20% on the total because life's been good to me, an extra five or ten bucks won't make ANY difference in my pocket, and I like to feel that everyone who encounters me is made a little better off, particularly if I'm having a good time. If service is particularly good I'll tip 30%.

I leave what I want , not a percentage. I look at it as be thankful I'm leaving anything at all and I hate the fact that it's something that's expected. I never got tips for doing my job. Never got any thanks or respect either.
