I tip 20% on the total because life's been good to me, an extra five or ten bucks won't make ANY difference in my pocket, and I like to feel that everyone who encounters me is made a little better off, particularly if I'm having a good time. If service is particularly good I'll tip 30%.
^^This. A few bucks will make a huge difference to my server, and won't have any impact on me. I've gone as high as 30% for extraordinary service, but I only tip on the pre-tax amount.

PS. Am I the only one who sees the irony of tipping threads on a forum dedicated to paying $200+/hr to have sex?

Why? Do TTC Bus drivers, School Bus drivers, Go Train drivers, TTC train drivers get tipped?
Taxi and bus drivers are very different jobs. Cabbies can sit around for hours and not get any customers. Bus drivers are on a fixed schedule. That being said, I have tipped tour bus drivers before if they did an exceptional job.

I wonder if tipping attitudes will change when the new minimum wage laws go into effect. Currently I tip 20 percent of the total.

15% is the standard.

But of you pay with a credit card, I think they apply that amount to the AFTER TAX amount which means you are really paying about 17%.

If you choose to pay about 13%, that equates to 15% BEFORE TAX.

In Canada, people who expect/demand a a tip are these people. Even if it's the worst service, ever, they still want it and will give you a dirty look if you tip less than 15%, (which is really 17% since most people and the credit card machines apply 15% after tax):

- Restaurant workers that serve you at a table (not fast food workers)
- Hair cutters
- Taxi drivers
- Hotel bellhop/valet
- Escorts

Tipping people because they are under paid is just the employer scamming the customers. I tip for the same reason most people tip, to avoid looking like an asshole.
But why are we obligated to tip in the first place? Simply put it is the government's fault for allowing businesses to pay their servers below minimum wage.
It is a pretty stupid thing.

There's lots of minimum wage jobs out there, yet some reason only certain ones is the norm there for people to tip. How come nobody tips the nice clerk at the mall making $11/hr who help you pick shoes for half an hr?

What's even dumber is that these tip-heavy jobs have the workers giving evil eyes to customers. Customers pay enough, why should they be the target of your money? Go bitch at the boss. He or she's the one who is gimping your wages.

I work in an office and the companies I work for make stuff to sell at stores. If I was being underpaid, the right thing to do is complain to the boss to pay me more. Not to complain to the company's customers that they are paying too little for the products and that they should pay more so my boss can pay me more.

Just wondering since I don't know the logic or reasoning behind it but why tip an Escort? Honestly, I would like to know.

Worked in the restaurant industry when they were paid peanuts compared to other jobs because they were expected to be tipped. I get that. Hair cutters, taxis and valet, I kinda get it but not exactly. Just seems that society has said that for whatever reason to be polite you tip. I will say though, I have on several occasions not tipped a hair cutter.

Escorts are a whole different ball game. I hire a mechanic to work on my car, I am not expected to tip him afterwards. An IT guy comes to house to solve a huge computer malfunction, do I tip him? No. So why are you expected to tip escorts? Ladies set a rate for what they deem their time to be and that is what gets paid. Did she provide some extra service or go out of her way for you at no additional charge, sure tip, that I get. However you book an incall for an hour at 350 and she lets you in the door at the arranged time and she has you going out the door 55 minutes later then why are you tipping? You had an arrangement for cash for services and it was agreed to, nothing extra offered, why tip? There was one lady I had seen on a couple of occasions and she tried to sneak the conversation of tipping escorts in, eventually saying that she doesn't understand why guys don't tip. That was my last visit to her. Your rate is 300 and you expect a tip, he's a tip, charge 350.

Honestly, are you that dense that you don't understand why you tip an escort. You actually answered your own question in the second paragraph, lol. It is no wonder you complained about YMMV and an Indy blocking you. They can sense/smell "bad attitude" which it appears you have in abundance. It just seems like you bring out the worst in any SP that you see. If you don't want to tip, don't tip. Don't bitch about it. Mind you, since returning from your "hiatus" it seems like you do a lot of that here.....................................9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2

Society has deemed we tip escorts? Really. That is news to me and I am sure a lot of other guys that hobby.

Bad attitude? Lol. Yes that is why so many SPs hated seeing me regularly. That is why so many have spent time with me in and out of the bedroom. That is why various SPs have invited me to functions off the clock. That is why I was a "date" for a family weekend away. They can totally smell my bad attitude and don't want to be around me.

As for being blocked, apparently that is a Kate thing, I never knew.

YMMV, some are professional. Some are not. Just because they are in this line of work doesn't mean they are cut out for this line of work.

At restaurants, I follow this general rule:

10% for crappy service
15% for average service
20% for great service

While I do tip beyond that, it's only when I've been very pleasantly surprised and want to show my gratitude. I once tipped a favourite server 1000% on the eve of her honeymoon, but considering my bill was $15, that's not as impressive as it could be!

Yes I know, blah blah blah blah. YOU ARE THE KING!!!!!! I am sure that your lack of YMMV is the result of the smell of something, lol. Be it bad attitude or BO. Society has deemed we tip escorts?????? Where the hell did this come from. You tip when you want to or you don't tip. You ask in your post you don't understand why someone would tip an escort and then later on you say you understand why someone would tip an escort. Like most of your posts, just another example of just trying to cause sh$t. The rest, just making up stuff. It would be nice to get into a battle of wits with you but unfortunately when it comes to you, add the "t" to the beginning of wit. Not interested having to go through your lies and stories that only exist in your mind.

I usually choose the 15% option, but I also note that the 15% is generally calculated by the machine's program on the "after tax" bill amount.
Yup. 15-20% (pre taxes) is the norm.
In restaurants, I tip 10% of the total.
15% is the norm
I usually tip 20% of the final bill including tax but that's very generous. Most people tip 15% of the pre-tax bill.
You guys don't even know what is the "norm" much less who you should be tipping

Tipping at a restaurant is dumb enough, but for a taxi, escort, or barber?

This is why most good people in Canada will tip, but you might hear from our residential cheapwad in the forum TeeJay who will try to explain to you it's okay not to tip servers, and at the end of the year he's got an extra $100.00 in his piggy bank.

Let me give you a tip. When you write something foolish like this post, there is an edit button so even after you click reply you can go back an edit it so you can save yourself looking foolish.

You said yourself I said why we tip escorts was in my second paragraph. In that paragraph I talked about why we tip others (Restaurant, taxi, hair dressers, valets). So restaurants gets tipped because their pay is less than minimum wage, so since Escorts make well more than that we know that isn't the answer. As for the others I said that they are tipped because that is what society has deemed appropriate. So since you are claiming I answered the question that would mean you think society has deemed it appropriate.

So if you want to insult someone's intelligence online you better make sure that your own posts are up to par otherwise the only persons who's intelligence is called into question is your own.

Nice to see though that your lack of arguing skills though is so poor that you have to result in name calling. Classic sign you have already lost.

I know you're cheap.

I can understand why a poor man might not tip, trying to make every penny count, stretching to live within your means.

As I said, life has been good to me and I like spreading a little bit of that goodness in my wake particularly when I'm enjoying myself. I feel it should be a happy time for all involved and that includes anyone serving me. So I tip generously.

And like I said an extra ten or twenty bucks just won't make any real difference in my pocket anyway. If I get out for an evening and spend $100 in a restaurant what's an extra $20 really?

You should take your own advice but then again ..........

Your opening statement:

"Just wondering, since I don't know the logic or reasoning behind it but why tip an escort? Honestly, I would like to know"

Then you follow up with this:

"So why are you expected to tip escorts? Ladies set a rate for what they deem their time to be and that is what gets paid. Did she provide some extra service or go out of her way for you at no additional charge, sure tip, I get that"

Duh!!!!!!!! Lol. You must have trouble understanding the BS that you write.

If you are paying for a service and the provider goes above and beyond, then yes it's only right to tip. I don't just mean escorts, I mean anything whether they be a mechanic, plumber whatever their job. If you they are doing more for you than the job requires then they should be appreciated with an extra financial incentive. They don't have to be in "tipping" professions.

That said, when did escorts become a "tipping" profession? Restaurant servers has always been a tipping profession. Hairdressers, taxi drivers, valets all seem to expect a tip for doing their job because society has deemed it socially acceptable to tip them. Some seem to think that it is normal that you tip an escort after you finish a session even if the session was just ask was discussed. Most professions we are told a price, the person does what they said they would and we pay them, no tip for services performed. So the question still stands, why do you tip escorts?

I know math is obviously not your strongest suit but on your $100 bill an extra $20 means you only could eat out more often
With your example this equates to you eating out 5 nights a week vs my eating out 6 nights a week and we both made and spent the same money
