I read it and what's your point? It doesn't say the city is shitty.

Each to his own, I guess. Why then, if you don't like it, does you still live here? (I am assuming you do.)

It may surprise you to know that many of us love this city. Diverse cultures, great food, good nightlife, a "community of communities".

The weather sucks, but IMO that's about all.

Yes I do live in Toronto... born here. I will be moving out thankfully in a year and a half. People who defend this city are in denial... it's such a terrible place to live.

Where are you moving? I'm kind of tired of this city too, or maybe just city life in general.

YYC has a point, you can be in the most beautiful place in the world but if you're not happy with yourself then you'll always be unhappy.

Reverse is also true, if you're in bliss then you can live anywhere (well almost)
Exception would be London Ontario for obvious reasons

Hmmmm.....I was born in Vancouver, moved to Toronto when I was 13. Went to university in Kingston....spent some time in the praries and in the East coast. Because of my work, I've travelled through most of South East Asia , Europe and Central Africa....I spend my free time in the Carribean......and to be honest -

Toronto is where I choose to call home.

Toronto, well Canada in general - a country free of monsoons, plagues, tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes, civil war, martial law, starvation. A country that celebrates cultural diversity, religious belifs and sexual orientation. If you're too stupid - we'll send you to school. If you're sick - health care is free. If you're too lazy - get welfare. Trust me, it doesn't get any better than here.

I've put a lot of miles on my shoes and until you see the world the way I've seen it - it'll be hard to compare.

I too was born and raised in Toronto and travelled extensively and lived in many large cities in the world including London, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Frankfurt, Milan, Geneva, Cairo, Istanbul, Sydney, to name a few.

Torontonians have a high opinion of themselves, I agree, and they generally bitch/whine/complain more about services other city residents would KILL for, their world class status is over-rated and the night life is boring in general terms.

But it is a great city to live in and raise kids. It does have some very good broad qualities that many other cities don't and on balance, if you don't let all the whiners/complainers/bitchy types/prima donnas/self centered "Toronto is the greatest city in the universe types" get to you, it is a fine city.

If you dont like it why wait to move?

I dont get it.
If you dont like it in TO then leave and dont wait but do not complain about one of the safest cleanest cities in North America.
Try living in Detroit or Houston for a while. If you survive then you can bitch about Toronto

Wow I didn't realize how many people dislike T.O.. Personally if I had a choice I would relocate to Los Angeles because of the great weather. However if Toronto didn't have such a lousy winter this city is fantastic. We have wonderful nightclubs, restaurants, cultural diversity, thriving artistic scene, huge film industry, open minded people, great shopping and low crime rate.

I find the farther away you get from Toronto people are more simple minded(not necesssarily less intelligent) more insular in their way of thinking. Their world seems to be centred around the immediate community wheras Torontonians are more global minded. I like Toronto in that I am surrounded by so many people with so many diffent views.

Furthermore I think it depends on what you consider important. A sophisticated and cosmopolitan city is what attracts me. I want to be challenged by my peers both psycholigically and intellectually. I want to walk out my door and have the choice of going to a restaurant, going to a theatre, watching a hockey game, dancing the night away, walking on the boardwalk, seeing a play, and just having a choice of a myriad of activities! (one must not forget to patronize their local strip club or M.P.!)

Lastly perhaps the people who choose to dis Toronto are perhaps a tad ... jealous?

If you are a Canadian Citizen, it is your moral right to love your city and the country you are staying. As Toronto is a great city and much better in many ways than most of cities of U.S.A. we have much less evils by the grace of Lord being a Mega Metropolis City

It is comments like these from people like this that make T dot a shitty place to live. C'mon now Montreal beats this place hands down. I have had friends visit me from all over the world and they say it is a nice clean place, but they never come back.

Oh contrare .. I don't think you can. The article was about how people outside this city percieve the ones who live in it and the city in general.

Sigh....

This thread has only made me crave to visit Toronto (and I have visited/resided in other cities) much sooner than I have planned. Most of my fond memories were created there...how can I dislike it?

Natalie;-)
