Jim Kirk,

Very very few lawyers bill 2080 hours a year. Hell, most lawyers aren't even required to bill 2000 hours a year.

Plus, that's gross income. Out of that, partners have got to pay assistants, paralegals, accounting, IT and other staff, rents, overhead, expensive lunchs, marketing and business development costs and etc. etc. etc. Just think of the rent for a downtown Toronto tower? And, you have to pay associates (who don't come cheap either).

If you do a bit of research, just a wee bit, say like here: http://www.payscale.com/research/CA/Job=Attorney_/_Lawyer/Salary

you'll see that 280K per year is waaay out of line. That's judge territory and on average, lawyers don't make more than judges...

Here's an even better source (Canadian Lawyer Magazine, a legal trade publication for lawyers in Canada):

http://www.canadianlawyermag.com/The-2010-Canadian-Lawyer-compensation-survey.html

and

(better link, but more reading) http://www.canadianlawyermag.com/images/stories/Surveys/2010/cl_sep_10_pg_35.pdf

And when looking at this, remember that 60-70 percent of lawyers work in firms of 10 lawyers or less.

And see here: http://www.businessgrad.ca/salary/top-ten-highest-paying-careers-2010-edition/

Note where Judges end up on the ladder. With respect to doctors, note that that is "specialist doctors" not physicians generally.... Take the average of physicians and you see that Judges make the most.

I hear there's an opening in Ottawa, ~$250,000, a historical residence in the Gatineau Hills, an apartment near your office, a chauffeur, house staff
and a fair amount of international travel time to te corners of the world. The last person was deeply admired but he retired.
