There are a few reasons why Saudi Arabia was not colonized by the British or the French like many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. One major reason is that the Arabian Peninsula is a vast, desert region that is difficult to traverse and control. Additionally, the region was largely inhospitable to outsiders, and the Bedouin tribes that inhabited the region were fiercely independent and resistant to outside control.Another reason is that the region was not rich in resources that were highly valued by the British or French at the time, such as oil. The discovery of oil in the region only came much later in the 20th century, so the British and French had little incentive to try to conquer and control the region. Finally, it is important to note that the Ottoman Empire controlled much of the region until the end of World War I, and the British and French were more focused on gaining control of territories that had previously been under Ottoman control, such as Egypt and Palestine.

Also, lets not act like the middle-east was some push over region. Europe is actually lucky the Muslims didn't colonize them.
The Muslims got as far as the Gates of Vienna.

Colonization is actually a result of Europe being scared of the middle east. The muslim's wouldn't allow them to establish trade routes to India.
The Muslims were well on their way to conquering all of India until they were defeated by the Sikhs. Estimates of Indians slaughtered by the invaders range from 80mm to 280mm to 400mm.

What would the world look like if Europeans had colonized Saudia Arabia?

Much of the Earth would be desert, and the global population today would be about 500 million, many living underground. All of the oil would have been used up by the 1940's, and global warming would have started 100 years earlier. Sea levels would be ten feet higher. The atmosphere would be starting to clear, after the population implosion. There would still be only six teams in the NHL.

There would be a lot of homeless Arabs in London, England, which would be the Capital city of Earth, with Beijing-like smog in the form of fog. Locals would refer to them as "lazy Sauds".

It would rain there all of the time, like in Bladerunner, instead of most of the time. Canada would have a puppet government, controlled by big business, the same as now.

The illegal rooming house on my street would be filled with 10 white people instead of brown ones.

Who is "we"? Your country still belongs to someone else across the pond.

Regardless, you shouldn't have a problem then with us bringing freedom right back to Canada. The same way we brought it back to the UK with our Indian PM :sneaky:
We gave you your Common language. Legal system. Parliamentary system. Try to keep up.

That seems like a much overlooked chapter of history, unless you are Indian. How much bad blood still exists between India and the Muslim world?....Kautilya? I know older Brits are still pissed at Germany, and what they did is a fart in the wind by comparison.

T.O.
There are Hindu nationalists (mostly uneducated, and idiotic people) who engage in violence against Muslims. Then again, these incels will engage in violence against Hindus and Christians as well, for any cultural issue they have. They are the Indian equivalent of the people below.

Then there is terrorism from Pakistan over Kashmir. However, I have not met a single Pakistani or an Indian who actually hates each other. Pakistanis are exceedingly polite and nice to Indians, and so are we. It is more a government and media conflict than a people conflict or bad blood.

Also, apart from the idiots I mentioned above, if you go to India you will often times see a Mosque, a Temple and a Church all on the same street. I was raised Catholic, but I have been to Mosques with my Muslim friends. Our Hindu and Muslim family friends have come with us to Christian pilgrimage places many times. Heck, my neighbors growing up in India were Muslims and I used to routinely jump on the guy's back when he was doing his Namaz and they'd still treat me as their kid. At one point I even asked him to teach me to read Arabic and he did lol.

India is complex and contradicting. You can either choose to actually learn about it, or resort to a simplistic understanding of what you think India is based on some media narrative.
Well said. India and much of the world for that matter is complex, many on here prefer a simplistic caricature.

We gave that to them along with their common language and system of government and their legal system. (although they don't use it so's you'd notice)
We? You were part of the administration of the John Company or the Raj? Or is it that you feel the need to gain status because your ancestors were from the same chunk of land that did something a few centuries back.

p.s. India had well established systems of law and structure long before the Brits showed up. It was just many states instead of the current 1 (or 3).

There's a little bit of tongue in cheek going on in this thread. Maybe a little too subtle or something for you to figure it out. Don't take political discussions on a pooning forum too literally . I'm not really Robert Mugabe. You do get that don't you?

Yeah, now I see the 'subtlety' of trying to take credit for something that has nothing to do with you simply because you have English ancestors.
