Please, nice try.

He said he was "pretty sure" it was a criminal act. His next sentence was "From 24 Sussex to prison with you Harpo". The next sentence: "What a scumbag". Seriously, try to follow along gramage. In dottyboi's feeble little mind Harper is already guilty. Trust me on this, he is preparing the noose.

My initial reaction was to wait and see what transpires. I'm not "attacking the appalled", I'm attacking the idiot who is too biased to realize this is the correct reaction.

If Harper is found to be guilty, he will lose my vote.
I can't conceive of any means by which the recording was obtained with permission of the NDP...
Yes I do admit I am very biased. I really dislike Harper, the conservatives and all they stand for. The only thing I agree with, is fiscal conservatism, (in good times). But even that has gone out the window, and I see no evidence of any conservative govt. being fiscally conservative for a very long time. Even mulrony spent like a drunken sailor.

I understand but, what's the rush? Lets see how Harper explains it. Let's see what an investigation uncovers.

Trust me, if found guilty, I will be right behind you asking for Harper's head.

I hear she's a screamer.
Funny, I have heard that their marriage is for appearances only, if ya know what I mean.

As bad as Harper's blunder on the financial update has been, I do not for a moment believe that he would post a conversation that was illegally intercepted.

If there has been an illegal invasion of privacy, IMHO the RCMP should get involved and deal with the issue.

It would be nice if the Cs were replaced by a coalition, but Harper is already backing down. In the end, nothing will come of it.

I don't agree, the Tories have proven to the other parties that they cannot be trusted. They have to act now. If they act later, it will just trigger an election as opposed to a coalition government. I think they will do it. It is in all their interests to do so. People that voted for them tend to dislike Harper so they can count on about 60% of Canadians supporting them.

The Conservatives released a taped transcript of what appears to have been a private strategy call between representatives of two other political parties.

The question is how they would have a recording of such a thing--although to date no actual allegation has been made that they did something illegal to get it, it's just pretty odd that they would have a legal way to get it.

So basically the question has been put "how did they get it", if someone on the call legally recorded it and then legally gave it to them then while it might be highly unethical it might not be illegal.

danmand, you're becoming obtuse.

Look, it's not complicated. I'm going to wait and see before I make any assumptions.
One has to hope that Harper would realize that someone might ask how he got the tape and have an explanation. He's many things but dumb isn't one of them.

My guess(hope) is that they were given the tapes by a disenfranchised NDPer.

It is amusing at the speed at which the Libs and other want justice except when it's them.

I suspect the real reason they are making a fuss is to deflect attention from the fact that Jack and the Liberals are pulling a Faust.

Agreed. This is why I have a wait and see attitude.

Yes, a possibility too but I'm still going to avoid making assumptions at this time.

Yes, I found that amusing too.

Harper claims a Tory was invited to participate in the NDP conference call so they dialed in, listed and taped the conversation. This may end up being an inadequate defence since it was obvious to anyone that this conversation was not intended for conservatives or their supporters. It will be up to the lawyers to sort that out and it won't happen before Harper is ousted. On 680 news, the initial report was that an invitation to participate was inadvertantly sent to one of the CPOC. Harper better keep that e-mail and hope it is sufficient to cover his ass.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081130.wfiscaltape1130/BNStory/National/

...."A spokesman for the Prime Minister's Office said there was nothing unethical about covertly listening in to the private NDP deliberations, taping those discussions and releasing them to the media.

An unidentified Tory was “invited” to participate in the call, said PMO spokesman Dimitri Soudas.

“Maybe the invitation was meant for the Bloc, and they accidentally invited us. We were invited. When you get invited somewhere you have the opportunity to choose to participate or not participate.”

At least you guys voted for change you can believe in. We (well central Canada and rural Ontario) voted for the same crap that destroyed over a decade of balanced budgets without anything benefitial to show for it. How is it America and Australia figured it out and we didn't?

just watch and see.

this morning on the news they were talking about the infighting all weekend in the libweenie ranks as to who would lead the coalition of the damned.

Plus there is some butthole twitching being displayed by some libs as they have now started to think that what the hell would happen if the GG said no to the coalition and sends us to the polls again. Some libs are clever enough to realize that the optics of such a putdown would not be a positive for them in the campaign.

i think that Harper should have stood his ground with the opposition. He had them in the perfect box and let them ooze out. that was a tactical error on his part. The opposition would have backed down eventually. They are mainly spineless libs and blockheads. The blockheads being from kwebek are all bark no bite. froggy always runs when the going gets tough and the dippers don't have a clue what to think.

Stephen missed his chance to nail those bastards a good one.

Se Canadian stuff can be just as rivetiing as your American pols.

Antics in Ottawa

The antics in Ottawa these passed few days, have proven once again to me that which I have suspected for many MANY years...

The insane truly ARE running the asylum!

Another observation... The lefties (Liberals and NDP) have no hope of pulling this coup off unless they get the Traitors (Bloq) to hop in for some goodies... The Righties (Conservatives) will also have to do the same with the Bloq in order to fend off this so-called coalition... So what kind of back room deals do you think either of these groups are planning???

In the end, the "party" that holds the powerful swing vote once again- are the Quebec separatists! Does any one else think this is a problem???? (The tail has been wagging the dog for FAR too long!)

I'm still trying to sort out whether this makes Layton look better or worse--he's actually been pretty consistent on this point and maybe put the tape out himself--what is it he said on this call that he's supposed to be ashamed of?

Is it news to ANYONE that he wants the govt. gone?
