Anyone gonna be upgrading to Windows 10?

It's available today for free upgrading. I think I'll wait a while (it's available for free for a year) and read about pros and cons, before deciding.
I did and love it.

So close and yet so far.
Oops, I spoke too soon. A program I use at work (I'm on holidays at the moment) wouldn't work on Windows 10 when I tried it this morning. I tried the troubleshooting, compatibility mode, everything I could find but I could not make it work properly. It is an older program that I think I originally bought with Windows 98 but I still use it every day at work. There are more updated versions but I would have to pay for the new versions, and it's expensive.

Fortunately it was easy enough for my computer to go backwards to Windows 7 again. The program now works, but I have to re-register it every time I use it. It's a bit of a pain, but I'll only have to do it when I start work, then it's fine for the day.

win 10 epic fail.

I got the black screen of death with moving cursor upon restart. tried multiple times rebooting and trying recovery, repair, etc. in the end had to reinstall win 8.
Thanks for your feedback. I am still waiting for it download on my system but I think I will wait before I install it or get another hard drive.

My internet provider was flooded with calls with the same issue
Finally boiled Down to my 8.1 drivers were not up to date for my Ethernet connection
Spent an hour at the microsoft store and they downloaded the proper drivers for the Ethernet Internet

upgraded from 8.1 this afternoon. took longer than I thought it would. so far nothing special
You can reinstall W8.1 , if you are not happy with W10, its only available for 1 month after W10 installation, just go to "settings" and then go to "recovery".

Thanks , I am not unhappy just not as impressed as I expected to be. It works so far and I am getting used to it. Don't see a reason to go back, at least not yet. Nice to know I have the option.

I've got it installed on my Surface Pro 2 and another customized tower machine and it's running just fine!!! Had a bitch of a time trying to upgrade my Windows 7 Pro machine in the basement, had to create an upgrade package on a USB stick, and so far so good with the install.

14 million upgrades happened in the first 24 hours of release so there will definitely be some issues. i have now upgraded 4 computers without incident and i'm very happy with win 10.
there is definitely a different vibe around win10 compared to the release of win 8. I have yet to see a bad review. MS was MUCH more thorough with testing Win 10 before release than any previous versions of Windows.

I upgraded to Windows 10, do not see what the big deal is all about. Makes little difference to me. I had a problem with the screen glowing at full brightness. If you have this problem you have to update the screen driver.

I installed Win10 a few days ago and everything went smoothly but it's not really different. The only new feature I'm using that my old o/s didn't have is the multiple desktops.

The first thing to check : Click on battery icon, there should be a power adjustment. If it does not work then check video. below.

If the video does not work, try this.

- Right Click on Start icon.
- Click device manager.
- Click on display adapter
- ( my device is Intel HDgraphics your device may be different )
- Click on device and screen should appear and give you an option to update device.

Windows 10 Is Spying On You: Here’s How To Stop It

Windows 10‘s privacy settings very much need to be frowned at. Essentially: unless you pay close attention to the fluffy options offered when you first install Microsoft’s new operating system, it’s going to quietly track your behaviour and use it to fire targeted ads at you, as well as keeping tabs on your location history, data from messages, calendars, contacts and God knows what else. It is a bit scary, despite coming off the back of Microsoft’s own pledge to offer ‘real transparency’. You may or may not be OK with this yourself, but in any event at least some of this stuff can be turned off after the fact. I’ll explain how to do that below. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/07/30/windows-10-privacy-settings/

From The Microsoft Privacy Statement... "Reasons We Share Personal Data" https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement/default.aspx
Finally, we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to: 1.comply with applicable law or respond to valid legal process, including from law enforcement or other government agencies; 2.protect our customers, for example to prevent spam or attempts to defraud users of the services, or to help prevent the loss of life or serious injury of anyone; 3.operate and maintain the security of our services, including to prevent or stop an attack on our computer systems or networks; or 4.protect the rights or property of Microsoft, including enforcing the terms governing the use of the services – however, if we receive information indicating that someone is using our services to traffic in stolen intellectual or physical property of Microsoft, we will not inspect a customer’s private content ourselves, but we may refer the matter to law enforcement.

Make sure to turn off the sharing of updates files or you'll be wanting why you're using so much bandwidth.
