I'm 6foot moron. 210 pounds.
That puts your BMI at 28.5. Anything over 25 qualifies as overweight and over 30 is OBESE. Sounds like you could use some exercise! Why not try a bike?

At least you're doing better than Mr. Ford. His BMI must be 35 at least. That guy's a heart attack waiting to happen.

Rob sure has a way with words. anyone changing their mind one way or the other on Ford?

I both drive a car and ride a bike. I think certain streets should have bike lanes and others shouldn't, like Jarvis. That was a stupid idea.

But I have to say there would be many more injured cyclists if it weren't for drivers avoiding the brainless cyclists who fail to signal, fail to stop at red lights, fail to stop at stop signs, ride without lights after dark, ride the wrong way down one way streets and don't wear a helmet!

i suppose a discussion about the actual thread is out of the question
Here's a real post to the topic.

Rob Ford will be a HORRIBLE mayor for Toronto. He represents a single narrow perspective on how this city should be run, that of wealthy, mostly white constituants, who rarely if ever venture into downtown or recognize the needs of some of the city's less fortunate inhabitants. His current constituents represent some of the most affluent and wealthy citizens of the city and he has absolutely NO interest in serving anyone other than them.

He's demonstrated himself to be ignorant, potentially abusive and an alcoholic, a possible racist and most definitely a homophobe. He likely has never taken public transportation in his life, and based on his current proportions probably has never walked anywhere more than 500m in the past 20 years.

In a city with such a diverse population, with so many different needs, the mayor needs to be able adequately address the needs of ALL its citizens. This city does not just look like North Etobicoke everywhere.

The quotes taken by Smitherman's campaign are indicative of everything I've just mentioned. Like it or not, he said those things. If you agree with him, that's your right. I don't. I'll do everything I can to make sure he doesn't get into that mayor's office.

The problem is 4player, imo is that any politician that uses negatives against the competition rather than focusing on their own goals is a waste of space. And getting someone to dress up like a chicken? How pathetic. Quotes true or not, he's not getting my vote because of this childish campaign.

That's not what this thread is about.
Sigh.

Ok, so please address my previous points about Mr. Ford. Are they valid, yes or no? What a person says reflects how he feels, do they not? How a person feels about sections of the population that don't fit his demographic will affect how he will likely govern when he is eventually forced to deal with these people.

thats true. this morning a cyclist cut around a cab turning right on a red light, just avoiding getting run over, then up on the sidewalk, then back on the road crossing four lanes of traffic right in front of me and up on the other sidewalk, then back on the road riding against traffic and through another red. If he survived the day its only because drivers were looking out for the guy

Looks like I was wrong on my last statement (figured North Etobicoke was a lot more like South Etobicoke). Thanks for the correction. I still think he's a terrible candidate for mayor.

I guess you haven't looked at Ward 2. The average household income in that ward is far less than the City of Toronto as an average. It also has a more ethnic makeup with only 59% of the households speaking English as primary language as opposed to the city average of 64.4%. There are large East Indian, Somali and Polish communities in that ward. It is also well known that Ford is one of the hardest workers on council and that he fights for the average Joe, not just white wealthy consitituents like you have portrayed. That's why he's so popular he's coming out and saying what so many are thinking.
I say let's give him a chance, he can do no worse than Miller and his kooky socialist inner circle.

he might. but perhaps he will be just what this city needs. you were wrong about your perception of his ward perhaps you are wrong about your perception of the man as well. have you ever spoken with him or met him?

I am not a big fan of Ford, but it's too early for me to make any determinations of what I'm going to do one way or the other. I'll examine all angles once the compaign is actually started. The only thing that is cast in stone at this point is I won't be voting for Smitherman because of his childish antics.

I don't have a horse in this race so I have no vested interest one way or another. Frankly, I see this Ford as yet-another overfed right-wing gasbag. They're a dime a dozen.

But in my view he's actually got that thing about the bicycle lanes exactly spot on.

Like it or not, the car isn't going away. So a city/municipality/whatever just may as well get on with creating more road space and keeping the existing road space as clear as possible for cars. Creating things like bike lanes and multiple passenger lanes only serves to clog things up. Even transit often causes more problems than it solves.

So we can get on with dealing with reality, or we can leave our head in the clouds, hope that bike lanes/mass transit systems will work to reduce congestion. It's a complete myth.
