City council still has to ratify the deal. If Miller really did give away the farm then I think council will reject the deal and Miller will be almost completely ostracized.

Miller may not care about his job, but the rest of the councillors are looking forward to being re-elected.

I'm out of town, I sure hope he caved, it is the only way for him to survive.

A Union person said they've taken a step back 10 years, so guess who gave in? :p

I saw that interview, she was referring more to the damage to the relationship with the city rather than pay/benefits.

Looks like Miller folded like a house of cards. The union is saying they retracted all concession requested. LAME LAME LAME. It's Miller time. I guess when he said he was going to "take back this city" he was speaking on behalf of the unions and not the electorate.

Agreed! Miller is NOT winning the next election.

Totally depends on quality of main opponent

More than one serious opponent? Miller wins.

Candidates like Mennin-Wong, Halliday, Ford, Smitherman ? Miller wins?

Candidate like John Tory, could be close

John Tory's only political assets is the fact that he is a conservative named Tory, other then that he is a pretty terrible politician. I also see little signs of any real talent.

No more sick day banking but a pay-out for grandfathered. Doesn't look as if either party won. Both Ferguson and Miller should be turfed at the earliest opportunity. Bet CUPE is a little disappointed that this was all that their money bought them.

Residents are only ones who lose....

REsidents got no services, piles of garbage, long waits for everything....don't feel sorry for striking workers. Wait for the details. Chances are workers got a contract signing bonus making up for all lost wages!!! This happens all the time.

Both Miller and Ferguson will spin this settlement as a victory for their respective sides. In the end the losers will be the Toronto taxpayer for putting up with all this mess when it could have easily been resolved much earlier and the workers, they will have lost 6 weeks of wages to keep their built up sick bank, but nothing going forward, however the longer tenured employees who will retire within the next few years will look at saving what they already have in the sick bank as a victory, even at the expense of losing wages.

Did I miss something? The last thing I heard was that a ratification vote would not take place until both locals had a settlement yet now I hear a vote will take place tomorrow. I guess they want that holiday pay for Monday.

Latest details;

6% over 3 years, major change in banked days for new employees and short term disability plan.

Let the debate and spin begin. Certainly not 3% each year and status quo.

So ... who wins?

same city paid cops, firefighters etc 3%/yr. Looks like sick days "grandparented" means those who have keep, get payout now or when retire. New hires LTD plan no banked sick days. Sad old screw the young trick but they don't have to take the job. Others not jerked around after long term planning and expectation created. City reduces pressure on unfunded liability. A wash.

Well, if that is the case I will eat my crow and say well done Miller. There was no way to not pay out on the banked days, it would have been illegal.

They were not getting the full value of the days, only a mere pittance.

One more rumour that needs to be quashed, when they retire, they cannot retire early and call in sick to use the days, that is fraud, but they do get a pay out for the unused days, only 50% of what is banked, if their bank is full.

Many retirees get a letter from a doctor saying they are ill due to stress and they use up their sick days just prior to retirement, it has been done many times before.

Also, it depends on the length of service for the pay out, those with the most years will get paid out at up to 80% of what is banked, that was what the city offered prior to negotiations, who knows maybe it's higher now after negotiations. Also, this is an option, they don't have to take the payout, they can retire with full banked days if they wish. It all depends on the number of years of service, it's on a graduated scale, it's not a simple answer fits all.

I think you're going to see a lot of the blue flu in the next few years. It's clear no one thinks that these worker are equal to firefighters and cops. Sounds good to me.

I don't think the details have come out. Can someone explain to me the change in the banking of the sick days?

Prior to now a full time employee with x amount of years served was allowed to bank up to 18 sick days per year and carry them forward with no maximum. Has that now been capped under the new agreement? Details are pretty foggy.

Douglas, there is a maximum for the payout of sick days, it was 6 months of your yearly salary. But, you have unlimited sick days if you want to use them if your sick.

The new agreement has no more sick days to bank going forward, it's a new sick plan, lol.
