why couldn't they keep there team intact?

as it stands, most Sens players are playing at their max worth and they have a decent #1 goalie waiting in line for the job...

in fact the salary cap system is more favourable for a team like the Sens, which aren't as rich as the Leafs per se. remember how close the Sens were to bankruptcy before the lockout... that won't happen to them now... and they have a good crop of players in the system.

let's also not forget how fantastic they are at picking up good talent through trades also...

the'll be strong for atleast the next 10 years...

Coz many of their players will commend salaries in the upper echelon when they become free agents.

You mean POTENTIAL #1 goalie. Remember what happened to Jim Carey?(Washington's ex-Goalie)

Yes, Ottawa will be good for many years. Actually, they have been the last few. I'm just saying that between now and the next 2 seasons is their best chance of winning the cup. After that, their team WILL change to make cap room. They may still win the cup but with a less talented team. Unless, of course, the GM somewhow gets full value for the players that will be gone.

This is true, and this was one of the main reason the salary cap was put in place. So that all the teams could afford the same number of superstars.

The cap hurts the players at the middle of the pay scale, because as the Heatley's etc; start to command larger contracts they eliminate the guys that make $1 to $2 million per year.

Ottawa has a two year window MAX 3 years and the team will have to be broken up.

this is the same across the board... and yet all teams have the same budget which will drastically slow down the amount of free agents that move from team to team from here going in... it will only happen when a player wants out, or when a team needs to discharge of an underperforming player/overpaid player, for some better available value. although, these circumstances will likely happen through trades. i still think that they will be a strong... not last season strong, but this season strong for the majority of the next 10 years.

Man with 25-to 30 losses this team is starting to resemble the ice hockey vertion of the raptors

All I can say about this Hockey Team is they are Not so "ROCK SOLID" as in not nearly as great as Toronto's Finest the Toronto Rock.

MLSE drove this team right into the ground this offseason just like the Raptors by making foolish moves with team personal before the season...Yikes

Leafs wins. Belfour did NOT get win #448. Kirmit wins 100$!

How's that for an update :p

boy wonder, I'm wondering what you are talking about. Are you predicting 25-30 losses for the Leafs this season? Coz, they haven't reach that many losses yet.

Well Kirmit you did keep your end of the punishment. LOL

However, your update lacks in information. Please provide the score and some comment on the game. LOL

Wellwood looked really good tonight. I think he is really going to become something special in a few years. Despite our injuries, it looks like we managed to play pretty well tonight. Kaberle was good as usual, and Steen looks promising. Hopefully 88 will be back for the Leafs on Saturday agianst the Sens.

No, I dont make the rules.

I can't make excuses because the Leafs stink, but Ottawa fans are just way too boastful right now!
We are going to get more and more boastful as the season progresses. There's a good reason, too. When we go to games here in Ottawa, the building is half full of Leaf Nation. I guess they can't afford the scalpers prices in Toronto, 90% of them are in the blue and white. You can actually here the chant of "Go,Leafs,Go". You can hear the booing for Alfredson. One night I actually heard cheering when a Senator got hurt. I was at the infamous flu game when the Senators had about 10 players left on the bench and blew a 4 goal lead to lose in overtime. The drunken Leaf fans were at their obnoxious best on the way out of that one. (To Owen Nolan, now that your career is in the tank, I say "boo hoo").

Yes, those play-off losses to the Leafs hurt like a knife to the gut. But that ain't goin' to happen again. The playing field is even. We've got the same salary budget to work with. We got rid of the bums (Lalime & Bonk) and you got rid of the character (Roberts, Neuwyndyk, Leetch, Francis).

So it's payback time. The Leafs have given up the future for the short-term every year. Well the future is now.

By the way, another solid win for the Senators tonight over Colorado despite the injuries. Just shows the great prospects they have to fill in (Bochenski, Eaves, Schuburt).

yes unfortunately the inbreed section that havent realized that Ottawa has a team, does exist but nowhere near to the extent you describe the booing of Alfredsson and cheering when a Sens player gets hurt!! what you will get is when Ottawa plays Carolina about 8 or 10 guys who married their first cousin wearing Leaf jerseys to the game and cheering for the other team its just totally stupid!

Alfredsson is a god in that city, he does alot of community service things and his brother owns a business in the area so he stays local in the off season unlike alot of Europeans who when the last cheque clears are off back to Bratislava or Turku
