Sciatica - Driving me crazy

I have a Chiropractor I've been going to for years. I go once a month for a tuneup which is usually enough. Once in a while I'll get muscle spasms in my neck so I'll see him a couple times in a week. It makes a huge difference. He's never been the type of guy who says "oh, you're neck (or whatever) is bad, you're going to need x number of treatments." He says, you know your body, come back to see me if you feel you need another adjustment. Not all Chiropractors operate this way, there's some bad ones out there.

I would talk to your friends to see if they can recommend a trusted Chiropractor. Never go with a random Chiropractor, they must come with solid recommendations from good sources.

I'd then have a complete evaluation along with x-rays and go from there. A good Chiropractor will also give you stretches and exercises to do if they feel it will help relieve the pain.

The trick is to find out what is causing the pain in the first place. A GP will likely just give you pain meds which is not the answer.

There's also http://www.backclinicsofcanada.ca/ but I don't know much about them or anyone who's been.

I hope you get it sorted out. Back pain effects everything you do. Good luck.
This . Don't understand the prejudice most of the medical profession still has against chiropractors. I have had several good ones over the course of my life (starting at age 12 when my parents took me to theirs - helped me with sinus problems as a kid). I know at least two people addicted to strong pain meds their doctor put them on, when chiropractic would help them without the drugs. Exercises are also a big part of it, I do them daily.

JFK had major back problems and swam to strengthen his core. Note the muscles here.

Yes but he was also on Steroids because of his condition. Which enhances muscles structure.

I belive sciatica type symptoms are cause by different triggers in different people which is why a number or treatments need to be tried and only a few may work.

There are different approaches from supplementation to physical manipulation by man or machines.

Spinal decompression as against traction is the newer machine method used but quite expensive.

Chiropractors that can perfrom dangerous manipulations espcailly around the Atlas in the neck region.

Some hvae gotten relief from supplementation with minerals including sodium, potassium and magnesium.

Omega 3 including potent ones like cetylmyristoleate(celadrin) or collagens of the bovine and chicken types as well as hyaluronic acid have aided others.

Unusual things like consuming candied ginger or organic broccoli everyday has also miraculously cured others.

Megadoses of vitamin C taken with hyaluronic acid or unflavoured gelatin has worked for others.

Sciatica may be the result of disc damage or simply pinched nerves.

In some cases it may be muscular shortening, tightening and knots.

Simply going over every disc looking for abnormalities along the spine and "pushing" discs back in place or "detangling" piched nerves cured my sister's scaitica that she had suffered for 5 years without relief.

It only gave my mom temporary releif though as her spine is older possibly arthritic due to weight and dietary restrictions over her lifetime.

Massage of the iliac region and just right in the "V" beetween the tops of the glutes which is well known trigger point works wonders for her though.

Try massaging with coconut oil and DMSO.

Things like Hot yoga over time may work for both muscle and disc conditions.

Notable supplements include Recovery, Cetylpure, Connect all, Omega XL and Liga tend.

He took cortisone injections for his Addison's Disease, however, I never read that this enhanced his muscles. It's not like an anabolic steroid taken by athletes. He swam every day in the White House pool (supposedly also inviting women at times) to combat his back pain by strengthening his core. He was a strong swimmer to boot (he swam to save the life of fellow sailors injured when a Japanese ship sank his PT-109 boat).

I woke up this morning with shooting pain from the left side of my lower back/ upper bum all the way down my leg. I feel like my leg is going into spasms right now (can actually feel a bit of twitching in the muscles) and it's extremely painful. It's excruciating to walk and most of the pain is my upper bum on the left side.

Never experienced this before! :( Heading to my doctor....

Hope it's nothing.

Did you do anything like suddenly pick up something that might have triggered it?

It happened during my morning stretches but my left leg has been bothering me for some time. The pain is steadily getting worse and the muscles are starting to twitch like crazy. :(

Took a month or so, but it cleared up for the most part.

Slight trace of "pins and needles" in left foot though.

I had same symptoms for a while. x-ray of my spine shows degenerative changes on L4 & L5. tried orthotic insoles, seen chiropractor with no relief.
I bought Inversion table and since the first time I used feel a sudden relief and the symptoms never came back. I only used once in a while now if feeling tensions on my back.

The Inversion Table seems too simple and TGTBT but it helped me and several other friends with various back problems.

So now I am in EXTREME pain and cannot walk at all. I'm basically immobile and the only time I am somewhat comfortable is when lying flat on my back. My doctor said yesterday that it was likely Sciatica and that it should clear up on its own. But now I'm thinking about going back and getting some muscle relaxants. Should that help?

Is it normal to get numbness? Last night I had numbness in my left leg and actually thought I was having a stroke. Could numbness be a sign of a pinched nerve? Sorry for all the questions guys, I'm just really concerned.

I had something like this about 20 years ago. Would wake up in the middle of the night with an excruciating pain in my knee area. Immoblizing pain. As well by back suddenly put me into what can be best described as a question mark.

I went to see a chiro. I had two issues.

The first was certain muscles in my back had become twisted up from a type of repetitive strain thing due to my carrying the too much on one arm all the time (plates) somewhat awkwardly to keep them level. He used electricity on my to clear it up.

The second issue was my hip had displaced mainly due to a large wallet. This took him readjusting it back into place. I also had a couple of vertibrae out of alignment. He popped those back in.

So now I go maybe every 4 months and get an adjustment. No fuss. No drugs. No surgery. And my regular doc says I'm in good shape. Better than someone 10 years younger.

I know there are bad ones out there but if you can find a good chiro they really can work wonders.

Yes, my left hip hurts. I have been walking unevenly for about two months but there was no pain until now. But even my friends have noticed a slight limp. I feel like one leg is longer than the other. This happened to my right hip two years ago but the pain was not nearly as bad. A doctor fixed me and I'd go back to him but he's not in Toronto.

I also woke up this morning with a charley horse. My leg also feels wobbly making me a bit afraid to walk around. It doesn't feel sturdy, almost like I'm going to fall. (I keep leaning to the left). Not sure if that's normal. Afraid to have a shower or bath unless someone is with me. Any volunteers? LOL

It's reached the point where it's pinching a nerve. That's what happens. The nerves move up the leg to the spine. And somewhere on the way one getting pinched by the hip. (I'm no doc but it does sound similar).

Numbness is the classic symptom of siatica.

I was also told that 95 percent of the time, if it's only one side, it's the left side. Strange I know.

When it was full blown, I could not sleep, was in so much pain. The only thing I found helped a bit was laying on my right side with my left leg in an L shape pulled up toward my chest.

I also found walking helped, however painful at first.
