I mean, we already live better than many kings or emperors did. I have a toilet with a bidet and built-in air dryer. Did Julius Caesar have a magic chair that cleaned and dried his asshole? And think about the accessibility we have to all sorts of goods. Back in the day, even an emperor was bound by seasons. An emperor loves oranges but oranges aren’t in season? Tough luck. No oranges for his majesty. Me? I don’t even have to leave my home to get just about anything I want. I want a 5 pound wheel of cheese, a dozen ostrich eggs, a set of spoons made from deer antlers, a Swiss Army knife, 7 toothbrushes, 10 pounds of marzipan, and a blow up doll? Cool. Gimme 20 minutes on Amazon. Don’t even have to go get it, someone will bring it right to my door.Perfect analogy. All people have liabilities, guess what life is hard! But if you were born in Canada, white & in the 21st Century, you already won the lottery and automatically get a headstart. People who focus on what they missed, lost or don’t have will always feel deprived. Focus on making the most of your gifts & blessings.
I think people need to review history. Sex was not ever readily available for most unless co-habituating & even then, manual labour & religious ideology placed barriers on all leisure. Today we think we all deserve to live like once only kings did. Let’s be more grateful!
Make no mistake, ancient kings would envy the life of a middle-class working stiff in a modern first-world country. So yeah, we should be very grateful for what we have.
